Crystalline form and its preparation

A process for the preparation of N-phenyl(pyridyl)sulfonyldiamides by reacting a 2-aminobenzoic acid (nicotinic acid) derivative with sulfur trioxide, chlorosulfonic acid or an adduct of sulfur trioxide with a tertiary amine in the presence of a diluent and of a tertiary amine, and reacting the resulting sulfamate with a primary amine and a phosphorus halide, or by reacting a 2-aminobenzoic acid (nicotinic acid) derivatives with an N-alkyl(cycloalkyl)sulfamic acid or a salt of this acid in the presence of a diluent and of a phosphorus halide.

Preparation of N-phenyl(pyridyl) sulfonyldiamides

3-Isopropyl-2,1,3-benzothiadiazin-4-one-2,2-dioxide (bentazone) is isolated from waste water, originating from its preparation and working up, by treating the waste water with an acid to bring the pH initially to 7.5-9.5, adding 0.2-0.5% by volume, based on the waste water, of a 40-60 percent strength by weight aqueous bentazone salt solution and heating the mixture for 15-30 minutes at 75.degree.-110.degree. C. The solution thus treated is then cooled and brought to pH 1-3 with a mineral acid, whereupon the bentazone precipitates in a form which can be filtered off.

New and valuable process for the manufacture of 2,1,3-thiadiazin-4-one-2,2-dioxide derivatives by reaction of anthranilic acid amide or aminopyridine carboxamide derivatives with sulfur trioxide derivatives to give the sulfamic acid salts, followed by cyclization of these salts.

Manufacture of 2,1,3-thiadiazin-4-one-2,2-dioxide derivatives

A process for converting viscous reactive chlorine- and sulfur-containing production residues into solid products which can be dumped, wherein the said residues are treated with alkaline materials. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, chlorine-containing and sulfur-containing production residues which are viscous and still reactive, e.g. the residues obtained from the manufacture of plant protection agents, dyes or fine chemicals, are converted in a simple and efficient manner into solid products which can be dumped. The treatment according to the invention has the advantage that no further pollution of the environment by waste gases or waste water results.

Conversion of viscous, reactive chlorine- and sulfur-containing

Amidosulfonic acids are manufactured by reacting Schiff bases first with sulfur trioxide and then with water. The compounds obtainable by the process of the invention are sweeteners (especially in the case of cyclohexylamidosulfonic acid and its calcium, sodium and potassium salts), and valuable starting materials for the manufacture of sweeteners, dyes and pesticides.

Manufacture of amidosulfonic acids

Aliphatic isocyanates are manufactured by thermal decomposition of aliphatic carbamic acid halides at a temperature not less than 25.degree.C above their boiling points in the presence of higher-boiling organic solvents and subsequent isolation of the resulting aliphatic isocyanate from the decomposition mixture. The isocyanates which may be manufactured by the process of the invention are valuable starting materials for the manufacture of plant protection agents, pesticides, dyes, synthetic resins and plastics, hydrophobic agents for textiles, detergents, bleaches and adhesives.

Manufacture of aliphatic isocyanates

Alkylisocyanates are manufactured by thermal decomposition of N-alkylcarbamic acid halides in the vapor state, at not less than 20.degree.C above their boiling points, in a plurality of reaction chambers, the bulk of the hydrogen halide formed in each reaction chamber being separated off. The products are starting materials for the manufacture of plant protection agents, pesticides, dyes, resins and plastics, textile waterproofing agents, detergents, bleaches and adhesives.
