Measurement system and process for measuring a cross-direction profile of specific properties of at least one of a material web and a coating on the material web. The system includes at least one stationary cross-direction profile measurement device having at least one radiation source adapted to irradiate the at least one of the material web and the coating on the material web in a plurality of defined and different wavelength ranges, and at least one sensor adapted to measure the intensity of radiation affected by the at least one of the material web and the coating on the material web. The system also includes at least one measurement and/or evaluation electronics system. Each sensor detects only one of the defined different wavelength ranges of the radiation at a specific point in time. The process includes irradiating the at least one of the material web and the coating on the material web with a plurality of defined and different wavelength ranges via at least one radiation source, and measuring an intensity of radiation affected by the at least one of the material web and the coating on the material web with at least one sensor. Only one of the defined different wavelength ranges of the radiation is measured by each sensor at a specific point in time.

Apparatus and process for a cross-direction profile of a material web

A papermaking machine and a method for applying an application medium to a moving web of material in a papermaking machine. The papermaking machine has a wet end section, a press section, a drying section and an applying device for applying a medium to a moving web of material. The wet end section includes a twin wire area having a first wire and a second wire wherein the web of material is formed and positioned between the two wires and separated from the two wires before moving to the press section. At least one wet end section applying device is positioned on one side of at least one of the first wire or the second wire within the twin wire area and facing away from the web of material positioned on the wires. The press section of the papermaking machine has a first press element and at least one press section applying device facing directly toward the web of material. The method includes forming a web of material in a twin wire area of a wet end section of the papermaking machine, applying at least one first medium with at least one wet end section applying device to at least one side of the web of material within the twin wire area of the wet end section of the papermaking machine, moving the formed web of material to the press section of the papermaking machine, and applying at least one second medium to the formed web of material with at least one press section applying device after the web of material passes a first press element of a press section of the papermaking machine.

Method and device for applying a medium on a running web of material

Press section for drainage of a fibrous material web that includes a shoe press roll, a cylindrical counter roll, at least one nip, a first nip of the at least one nip formed by the shoe press roll and the cylindrical counter roll, and at least one press felt. The at least one press felt is disposed on each side of the fibrous material web. The at least one press felt travels through a last nip of the at least one nip where the at least one press felt is separated from the fibrous material web and conveyed away after leaving the last nip. The drainage capacity and the reliable guidance of the fibrous material web are improved.

Press section and method of using the same for drainage of a fibrous material web that includes a shoe press roll, a cylindrical counter roll, at least one nip, a first nip of the at least one nip formed by the shoe press roll and the cylindrical counter roll, and at least one press felt. The at least one press felt is disposed on each side of the fibrous material web. The at least one press felt travels through a last nip of the at least one nip where the at least one press felt is separated from the fibrous material web and conveyed away after leaving the last nip. The drainage capacity and the reliable guidance of the fibrous material web are improved.

Paper making machine and method for web transfer

The invention concerns a winding device for taking up a paper web immediately after manufacture. The device comprises a carrier drum onto which the paper web is guided from one side (feed side); a winding rod with bearing journals; articulated levers which support the bearing journals in brackets and cause the winding rod with the rolled paper web to pivot around the carrier drum from a feed position into a pay-out position; a longitudinal cutter in the region of the winding-on side and upstream of the carrier drum for cutting the web into strips; a pressure roller for exerting contact pressure on the paper strips; and a support roller on the run-off side of the carrier drum in the pay-out region.

Dryer section of a machine for manufacturing a material sheet. The dryer section may include at least one dryer cylinder, a plurality of sheet guide rolls, a transport belt for guiding the material sheet in a meandering manner around the at least one dryer cylinder and the plurality of sheet guide rolls, and threads surrounding at least one of the at least one dryer cylinder and the plurality of sheet guide rolls. The threads may be positioned between the material sheet and a surface of the at least one of the at least one dryer cylinder and the plurality of sheet guide rolls.

Dryer section

A method and apparatus for coating a traveling layer of material, in particular paper and/or cardboard. An applicator implement applies a predetermined and proper amount of a liquid or pasty medium onto an outer surface of a first rotating applicator roller which in turn transfers the liquid or pasty medium onto a first side of the moving layer of material just as it is moving through a press nip. A second layer of coating medium is applied indirectly with a second applicator implement onto an outer surface of a second rotating applicator roller from where it is transferred onto the previously coated side of the moving material layer while the first coat of coating medium is still wet.

Method and apparatus for wet-in-wet coating of a moving layer of material

In a twin-wire former for the production of a paper web, two wire belts (11 and 12) together form a twin-wire zone which is divided into three sections (I, II and III). In the first section (I) the two wires (11, 12) travel over a curved forming shoe (16). They form there a wedge-shaped inlet slot (15) with which a headbox (10) is directly associated. In the second section (II), several resiliently supported strips (27) rest against the lower wire (11) and between each of said strips (27) a rigidly mounted strip (28) rests against the upper wire (12). In the third section (III) both wire belts (11, 12) pass over another curved forming shoe (23).

Winding device for taking up a paper web

Machine for manufacturing a material sheet and method of guiding the material sheet through the machine. The machine may include a dryer section including at least one dryer group having a plurality of dryer cylinders. Centers of a first plurality of the plurality of dryer cylinders may be arranged on an upper level and centers of a second plurality of the plurality of dryer cylinders may be arranged on a lower level spaced a distance from the upper level. A top felt may be associated with at least one of the first plurality of dryer cylinders and a bottom felt associated with at least one of the second plurality of dryer cylinders. The machine may also include a meandering run path for the material sheet through the at least one dryer group, the material sheet being guided in the meandering run path by the top and bottom felts, and at least one transition area between the plurality of dryer cylinders. The top and bottom felts may be positioned to guide the material sheet therebetween in the at least one transition area between the dryer cylinders.

Machine for manufacturing a material sheet

Machine for producing a material web, e.g., paper or cardboard, that may include a dryer section with at least one dryer group and the at least one dryer group may have at least one dryer cylinder, a dryer screen, and a metal belt. The machine may also include a cooling device associated with the metal belt. The material web, the dryer screen and the metal belt may be guided in a meandering path around an outside of the at least one dryer cylinder, and the dryer screen may be positioned between the material web and the metal belt. Further, at least one of the metal belt and the dryer screen may be intensely prestressed.

A nozzle of a multilayer headbox wherein the headbox includes a nozzle for distributing the stock suspension on a wire. The nozzle is subdivided by at least one machine-wide fin, the fin forming with the nozzle at least two machine-wide nozzle ducts. At least the mean value of the clearance of at least one nozzle duct diminishes steadily in the flow direction, the percentage decrease of the clearance in the fluidically essential area of the nozzle being at least twice as large as in the starting area of the nozzle.

At least one of the metal belt and the dryer screen being highly prestressed and the device may also include at least one of a heating installation and a cooling installation assigned to act on an area of a circumference of the plurality of cylinders in which the material web may be supported by the dryer screen and the metal belt.
