The invention relates to a system, a receiver and a method for satellite signal transmission, wherein the method includes the steps of grouping the signals into a data stream, splitting the data stream into at least a first and one or more second packets, transmitting the first packet via a first transmission channel (Ch #), transmitting the one or more second packets via one or more second transmission channels (Ch #), wherein the one or more second transmission channels (Ch #) are distinct from the first transmission channel (Ch #) and from one another.

A transmission system, a receiver and a method for satellite signal transmission, wherein the satellite signals includes respective data streams consisting of a sequence of data packets. The method incudes: subdividing the data packets of the data stream, through a splitter, into a first and at least one second data pseudo-streams; modulating the first and at least one second data pseudo-streams through a first and at least one second modulators, respectively; transmitting the modulated data pseudo-streams through respective transmission channels (Ch#. . . Ch#N), wherein, in order to generate the data pseudo-streams, the splitter will: select each data packet of the data stream; interrogate the modulators in a sequential manner in order to identify that modulator which, among the modulators, is available to accept the data packet, and send the latter to it; send a null data packet to the remaining modulators.

Method and system for transmitting satellite signals and receiver thereof

A transmission system, a receiver and a method for satellite signal transmission, wherein the satellite signals includes respective data streams consisting of a sequence of data packets. The method includes: subdividing the data packets of the data stream, through a splitter, into a first and at least one second data pseudo-streams; modulating the first and at least one second data pseudo-streams through a first and at least one second modulators, respectively; transmitting the modulated data pseudo-streams through respective transmission channels (Ch#. . . Ch#N), wherein, in order to generate the data pseudo-streams, the splitter will: select each data packet of the data stream; interrogate the modulators in a sequential manner in order to identify that modulator which, among the modulators, is available to accept the data packet, and send the latter to it; send a null data packet to the remaining modulators.

The present invention refers to a method for reproducing an audio and/or video sequence, as well as a reproducing device and reproducing apparatus that make use of the method; the method reproduces an audio and/or video sequence by means of a decoder (D) apt to decode said sequence and a buffer (B) connected upstream to said decoder (D) and able to store at least a part of said sequence; the sequence is transmitted by means of a number of data blocks; each of said blocks comprises an audio and/or video information data section and a corresponding error correction data section; such sections are transmitted in different time intervals; the method comprises a transitory operation mode and a steady state operation mode; in the steady state operation mode the correction data of the block (FEC) are applied to the corresponding information data before said information data are supplied to said decoder (D), while in the transitory operation mode the information data of a block are directly supplied to said decoder (D) ignoring the corresponding correction data of said block; the transitory operation mode is used after the audio and/or video sequence has been selected for the reproduction and for a determined time interval; the result is that the reproduction of the sequence takes place immediately after the selection and without waiting for the application of the correction data.

Method for reproducing an audio and/or video sequence, a reproducing device and reproducing apparatus using the method

The streams from a plurality of VBR coders or generic data sources () are multiplexed to a single stream by a multiplexer (), while inserting null packets to make their bit-rates uniform. A null-packet eliminator () removes the null packets from the stream, while signaling their positions, and inputs the stream to an ACM modulator () which codes the stream with the maximum ruggedness allowed by the rate of the incoming useful packets, and transmits the stream over a satellite channel. In the receiving station, the stream is demodulated by an ACM demodulator (), and the null packets are re-inserted into the stream by a re-inserter (), based on the received signaling. A bit-rate control circuit () receives from the transmitting station, over a return channel, a signaling of the quality of the received signal (QoS) and modifies the bit-rate of the VBR coders or generic data sources () accordingly.

System for the transmission of DVB/MPEG digital signals, particularly for satellite communication

Digital characters are broadcast by grouping the characters into a series of blocks, and providing each block with a synchronization character and an identifying prefix to form a digital package. The characters in the prefix provide information on the identity of the series, the overall number of packages which form the series, and the number of each package in the series. The characters of the various packages are converted into a 10-bit serial data format which includes one start bit, one stop bit and eight data bits. The serial data is transmitted in synchronous succession, encoded into a differential two-phase signal, and modulated onto a carrier frequency for broadcasting. The reception apparatus comprises a receiver, a digital computer and a connecting interface between the receiver and the serial input of the computer. The interface includes a bit clock signal generator for detecting the mid-bit transitions of the differential two-phase signal to produce a clock signal, a two-phase decoder comprising an EXOR gate driven by the differential two-phase signal and by the clock signal to provide a differential output signal, and a differential decoder comprising an EXOR gate and a delay circuit both driven by the differential signal, with the output of the delay circuit driving a second input of the EXOR gate to provide as output a digital signal representing the broadcast characters.
