A print media support assembly includes a print platen structure having a number of through holes for applying a vacuum from a bottom side to a surface of the print platen structure, and a number of sinkholes in the surface of the print platen structure, each sinkhole associated with at least one through hole for distributing a vacuum, applied via the through holes, across the surface of the print platen structure; the print platen structure supporting a print medium in a print zone; and at least one vacuum belt running across the surface of the print platen structure in a direction of print media advance, the belt overlapping with only part of the surface of the print platen structure to form at least one belt area and at least one non-belt area on the print platen structure; wherein at least one of the density and the size of the through holes and the distribution, the area and the shape of a footprint of the sinkholes is different between the belt area and the non-belt area.

Print media support assembly and print platen assembly

In one example, a platen holder includes a surface to support a platen and a clamp to clamp the platen to the surface. The clamp includes a jaw and an actuator to open and close the jaw. The jaw and the actuator located below a plane of the surface and the jaw movable at the urging of the actuator between an open position in which the platen may be placed on or removed from the surface of the holder and a closed position to hold the platen against the surface.

Dryers () comprising a first surface () and a deflector (). The first surface comprises at least one opening () through which air is forced during use to dry a printed media and the deflector comprises () a second surface to change the direction of airflow passing through the at least one opening. The deflector guides the direction of the airflow such that it flows substantially in a direction corresponding to the direction of travel () of the printed media.

A method and apparatus for calibrating a vacuum system in a printing device comprising obtaining a reference pressure value for a print zone of the printing device, measuring a calibration pressure value in the print zone of the printing device when the printing device is at an operating location and the vacuum system is in operation, determining an altitude based on the reference pressure value and the calibration pressure value and applying an operating setting to the vacuum system based on the determined altitude.

An example printing apparatus in accordance with the present disclosure may comprise a platen () on which print media may advance and which may comprise a hole () that is open towards a print media advance surface and in fluid communication with a vacuum source () and with a pressure sensor (). In implementations of the apparatus a control unit () may detect the presence of print media at the hole () if the pressure sensor () measures an air pressure below a predetermined threshold.

Described is a print zone assembly comprising a print platen device including at least a section of a print platen, hiving a first dimension and a second dimension, the second dimension being perpendicular to the first dimension, wherein the print platen device has a higher rigidity in the direction of the second dimension and a lower rigidity in the direction of the first dimension; and a platen support structure supporting the print platen device at a number of references, establishing a multi-point contact, wherein the print platen device conforms to the references for providing a flat platen surface.

An apparatus comprises a dryer to force air onto a printed media during use to dry the printed media, and an air collector comprising at least one suction opening throughout which, in use, air from the dryer is collected. The apparatus may guide the collected air back to the dryer. The at least one suction opening may be arranged so as to stop the printed media from rising due to pressure differential.

An apparatus includes a plurality of transport elements to cause a movement of a medium received at a media input in a movement direction towards a media output, wherein the plurality of transport elements are arranged spaced apart from each other in the direction transverse to the movement direction of the medium, wherein the plurality of transport elements include a first transport element to be moved with a first velocity, a second transport element to be moved with a second velocity, and a third transport element to be moved with a third velocity, the second transport element arranged between the first and third transport elements, and wherein the first and third velocities are greater than the second velocity.
