This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for identifying wake-up signals. Some implementations more specifically relate to PHY preamble designs for wake-up signals such as Wake-Up Radio (WUR) packets conforming to IEEE 802.11ba. In some implementations, the preamble designs can include a combination of modulation schemes, data rate indications and length indications enabling devices capable of receiving and decoding wake-up signals to identify the signals as wake-up signals (for example, WUR packets), while ensuring that devices not capable of receiving and decoding wake-up signals identify the wake-up signals as legacy packets, or otherwise not WUR packets.

Preamble design for wake-up signals

Methods and apparatus for multiple user uplink are provided. In one aspect, a method of transmitting a physical layer convergence protocol data unit on a wireless medium includes generating a first portion and a second portion of the physical layer convergence protocol data unit, transmitting the first portion at a first data rate, the first portion decodable by a first and second sets of devices, and transmitting the second portion at a second data rate higher than the first data rate, the second portion decodable by the second set of devices.

Methods and systems for multi user uplink compatibility with legacy devices

Systems and methods are disclosed for a wireless device to transmit or receive a channel busy time (CBT) to or from other devices in a wireless network. For transmitting, the wireless device may determine a CBT during which a wireless channel is to be occupied, generate a universal reservation signal (URS) indicating the CBT, and transmit on the wireless channel the URS to at least one other wireless device. For receiving, the wireless device may receive on a wireless channel a URS from a second wireless device, the URS configured to indicate the CBT. The wireless device may also refrain from attempting to transmit on the wireless channel during the CBT.

Universal reservation signal for wireless communications

A method for wireless communication is described herein. The method may include advertising support by a wireless device for a first bandwidth mode and a second bandwidth mode, wherein the first bandwidth mode utilizes a single channel and the second bandwidth mode utilizes channel bonding between a plurality of channels. The method may also include switching a current bandwidth mode of the wireless device from one of the bandwidth modes to the other of the bandwidth modes and adjusting a number of multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) spatial streams supported by the wireless device in response to the switching.

Techniques for supporting multiple bandwidth modes

In an aspect a transceiver is provided. The transceiver may include a plurality of local oscillator (LO) generators configured to generate a plurality of LO signals, respectively, for mixing with one or more communication signals. The transceiver also includes a first synthesizer configured to generate a first reference signal and a second synthesizer configured to generate a second reference signal. The transceiver also includes a distribution circuit. The distribution circuit is configured to switch an input to at least one of the LO generators between the first and second reference signals for tuning each of the at least one of the LO generators between two different LO frequencies and to input to the other ones of the LO generators the first reference signal for tuning each of the other ones of the LO generators to an LO frequency.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to apparatus and methods for switching operating bandwidth and/or operating channel in a wireless communications network. A transmitting STA may send an announcement of a switch to a particular bandwidth in a frame, wherein the presence or absence of a Secondary Channel Offset Element and a Wide Bandwidth Channel Switch Element in the frame indicates whether the particular bandwidth belongs to a first or second set of operating bandwidths. The presence of the Secondary Channel Offset Element and a Wide Bandwidth Channel Switch Element in the frame may indicate a switch to the first set of operating bandwidths. The first set of operating bandwidths may include VHT channels including 80 MHz only, 80+80 MHz and 160 MHz channels. The absence of the Secondary Channel Offset Element and a Wide Bandwidth Channel Switch Element in the frame may indicate a switch to the second set of operating bandwidths. The second set of operating bandwidths may include 20 MHz and 40 MHz channels.

Channel and bandwidth switch procedures for wireless networks

Certain aspects of the present disclosure propose transmitting a feedback message to an access point. The feedback may comprise a beamforming extension field, which may carry per tone signal to noise ratio of a station. For certain aspects, the station transmitting the per-tone SNR may be a single user (SU)-capable device. For certain aspects, the station may indicate to the access point whether or not it has a maximum likelihood (ML) receiver.

Beamforming feedback format

A method of adjusting single-stream transmissions by a wireless device based on channel state information (CSI). The wireless device generates a sounding packet formatted for transmission via multiple spatial streams, and transmits the sounding packet to a receiving device via a single one of the multiple spatial streams. For example, the wireless device may be a single-antenna device. The wireless device further receives channel state information (CSI) from the receiving device based at least in part on the sounding packet. The wireless device then adjusts one or more characteristics of single-stream transmissions to the receiving device based at least in part on the received CSI.

Beamforming techniques for single-stream communications

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to a technique of ordering sub-fields within Signal (SIG) fields of a preamble in Very High Throughput (VHT) wireless communications systems and to a technique of managing sizes of these sub-fields.

Method and apparatus for ordering sub-fields of VHT-SIG-A and VIT-SIG-B fields

Aspects of the present disclosure provide example preamble formats with repeated signal (SIG) fields that may help provide backwards compatibility and help address the effects of larger delay spreads in various wireless bands (e.g., WiFi bands).

High efficiency WLAN preamble structure

A base station for communicating with multiple groups of wireless communication devices is described. The base station includes a processor and executable instructions stored in memory that is in electronic communication with the processor. The base station determines a number of wireless communication devices. The base station also splits the number of wireless communication devices into groups. The base station further determines a precoding matrix for each group. The base station additionally transmits a beamformed signal to each group using the precoding matrix for each group.

Communication devices for multiple group communications

A method includes generating a data packet at an access point. The data packet is to be communicated using a waveform that includes a first set of tones that is allocated to a first destination device and a second set of tones that is allocated to a second destination device. The first set of tones is non-overlapping with respect to the second set of tones, and each tone of the first set of tones and each tone of the second set of tones is an orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) tone. The method also includes transmitting the data packet to the first destination device via an institute of electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE) 802.11 wireless network and transmitting the data packet to the second destination device via the IEEE 802.11 wireless network.

Tone allocation for multiple access wireless networks

Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. An access point (AP) may determine a single user bias for a wireless device based on a feedback signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and an SNR based on a modulation and coding scheme (MCS). The AP may also determine a multi-user SNR for the wireless device based on the feedback SNR, the single user bias, a multi user loss, and a group bias. The AP may then select an updated MCS based on the multi-user SNR. In some cases, the AP may transmit a reference signal to the wireless device and receive a compressed beamforming feedback report from the wireless device based on the reference signal. The feedback SNR may be based on the compressed beamforming feedback report. The AP may also maintain a blacklist of groups with channel correlation that satisfies a threshold, and refrain from scheduling those groups together.

Multiple user MIMO rate prediction based on single user SNR feedback

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to techniques for transmitting sounding feedback in Very High Throughput (VHT) wireless systems. The sounding feedback may be transmitted from a user station (STA), wherein the feedback may comprise a certain number of beamforming matrices and a certain number of singular values of a wireless channel associated with the STA. Further, the sounding feedback may comprise a bit for indicating whether this feedback represents a Single-User (SU) feedback or a Multi-User (MU) feedback.
