A Wireless LAN (WLAN) Li-Fi transceiver includes a Wi-Fi device and an Analog Front-End (AFE). The Wi-Fi device is configured to produce a spatial stream carrying data, and to produce from the spatial stream In-phase and Quadrature (I/Q) signals for transmission over a radio channel having a predefined Radio Frequency (RF) band. The Analog Front-End (AFE) is configured to modify the I/Q signals, or modify operation of the Wi-Fi device, for producing a real Li-Fi signal in a predefined optical band, and to transmit the data carried by the spatial stream to a remote Li-Fi receiver by driving an optical emitter with the real Li-Fi signal.

Implementing a Li-Fi transceiver by reusing elements designed for a Wi-Fi device

A Wireless Local-Area Network (WLAN) access point includes a WLAN transmitter, a WLAN receiver, and a processor. The WLAN transmitter is configured to transmit WLAN packets and to send a timing-synchronization signal. The WLAN receiver is configured to receive echo packets including reflections from an object of the transmitted WLAN packets, to receive the timing-synchronization signal, and to time-synchronize the echo packets and the corresponding WLAN packets. The processor is configured to (a) in response to a gap in the received echo packets, generate one or more synthetic echo packets by interpolating over two or more of the time-synchronized received echo packets, to consequently derive a sequence of equally-spaced echo packets, (b) using the derived sequence of equally-spaced echo packets and the WLAN packets estimate one or more parameters of the object, and (c) output the estimated parameters to a user.

Coherent Wi-Fi radar using wireless access point

A wireless device includes multiple RF chains, one or more processing modules, a switching circuit and a processor. The RF chains operate in multiple RF bands, and at least one RF chain is configurable to operate at a RF band selected from the RF bands. The processing modules are configurable to process signals communicated with the RF chains. The switching circuit routes signals between RF chains and processing modules in accordance with a routing plan. In response to an event that warrants reconfiguration, the processor re-allocates resources, including (i) allocating one or more RF chains to respective RF bands, (ii) allocating one or more processing modules to process signals associated with the RF bands, and (iii) setting the routing plan to route signals between pairs of RF chains and processing modules allocated to a common RF band. The processor communicates wirelessly with remote devices in accordance with the operational reconfiguration.

Dynamically configurable wireless device supporting multiple concurrent frequency bands

A Wireless Local-Area Network (WLAN) access point includes a WLAN transmitter, a WLAN receiver, and a processor. The WLAN transmitter is configured to transmit WLAN packets via one or more transmit antennas, and to send a timing-synchronization signal over an internal interface. The WLAN receiver is configured to receive, via one or more receive antennas, echo packets including reflections from an object of a selected subset of the WLAN packets transmitted by the WLAN transmitter, to receive the timing-synchronization signal from the WLAN transmitter over the internal interface, and to time-synchronize the echo packets and the corresponding WLAN packets using the timing-synchronization signal. The processor is configured to estimate one or more parameters of the object based on the time-synchronized echo packets and WLAN packets, and to output the estimated parameters to a user.

Wi-Fi radar detection using synchronized wireless access point

A Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) device includes multiple transmission/reception (TX/RX) chains, and control circuitry. The TX/RX chains include first TX/RX chains tuned to a first channel, and second TX/RX chains that are selectively tuned to the first channel or to a different second channel. The control circuitry is configured to receive, via at least one of the TX/RX chains, a frame preamble signal including a first part and a second part, which are both transmitted over either the first channel alone or over both the first and second channels, and the first part is decoded from the first channel alone, to make a decision, before receiving the entire first part, whether the second part is transmitted over the first channel alone or over both the first and second channels, and to tune the second TX/RX chains to the first channel or to the second channel, based on the decision.
