A closure including a container having a side wall with an attached closed end and an open end and a closure for closing the open end. The side wall of the container includes an inner wall and an outer wall at the open end and the closure includes a depending skirt which extends into the area between the inner wall and the outer wall. Three static seals are provided with a first radially extending seal defined by an end of the inner wall and an inner surface of the closure. A second static seal is defined by abutting surfaces of a pair of ridges, an outwardly extending annular ridge formed on the inner wall and an inwardly extending annular ridge formed on an inner surface of the skirt. A third static seal is formed by an inwardly facing annular surface formed on the outer wall and an outwardly facing annular surface formed on an outer surface of the skirt. A fourth static seal in the form of a labyrinth seal is provided as protection against leakage from the channel. The labyrinth seal is defined by the abutment of an annular sealing surface on the outer wall and at least two outwardly extending annular ridges formed on an outer surface of the skirt.

Tamper resistant wide mouth package with labyrinth seal

A single-piece, reusable, wrap-type, multi-pack carrier for a plurality of beverage containers. The carrier is shaped to separate the containers carried thereby from contacting one another during transportation in such carerier, and comprises disengageable and re-engageable locking means to permit the locked carrier to be opened and reclosed. A preferred embodiment of such carrier is formed by vacuum forming or thermoforming a die-cut sheet of a thermoplastic material.

Reusable wrap-type multi-pack carrier

A tamper resistant package is disclosed which comprises a container having a closed end, at least one side wall, and an open end defined by the side wall, the side walls having radially extending sealing surfaces, and a closure of plastic material such that the closure flexes in thin cross section. The closure has a depending annular skirt which is adapted to securely fit within the open end of the container. The depending annular skirt defines radially extending sealing surfaces for engaging the radially extending sealing surfaces of the container and for placing the container and closure under tension to secure the closure on the container. The closure is snapped into the open end of the container and is sealed under tension such that an attempt to disengage the closure from the container causes visual damage to either the closure or the container which can be seen by observing the package from the top. The tamper resistant package is especially useful for conducting urine specimen testing procedures.

A dispensing closure valve for a container comprising a stem for attachment to the container, and stem having an annular wall defining an opening and a closure having an annular wall, a radial wall engaging the free end of said stem, a transverse wall being curved and defining a convex surface facing inwardly of the container. The closure includes a downwardly and inwardly inclined integral annular portion defining a sealing surface at the juncture of the axial wall and transverse wall. The stem has a downwardly and outwardly inclined surface engaged by the downwardly and inwardly inclined sealing surface of said closure. An actuator comprising a tab extending axially from the inner surface of the transverse wall for manipulation of the closure to flex the axial wall and the transverse wall and thereby permit the contents to flow between the wall of the stem and the wall of the closure.

Dispensing closure valve

A method for forming multi-directionally oriented plastic articles by shearing a thermoplastic material in a non-linear shear pattern while the material is at a temperature conducive to orientation and further processing the material by known plastic forming techniques to form an article in which the material remains oriented. More specifically, thermoplastic material is plasticized and accumulated in an amount at least sufficient to form the article, and the material is expressed under pressure from the accumulated body to and through an orifice. The material is non-linearly sheared prior to its issuance from the orifice to induce orientation stresses into the material, and, during shearing, the material is at a temperature which is conducive to orientation. The orientation stresses are frozen into the material when the material is formed to a desired configuration exteriorly of the orifice by known plastic forming techniques, such as blow molding, injection molding, compression molding, thermoforming and the like. During such forming, additional orientation stresses may be induced in the material and superimposed upon those stresses previously introduced thereinto.

Method of making plastic articles

A carbonated beverage package comprising a container having an opening with a peripheral lip defining a free edge, and a downwardly and outwardly inclined sealing surface spaced from the free edge of the peripheral lip. A closure of plastic material, such that it will flex in thin cross section, is provided with an annular wall, a radial wall engaging the free edge of the peripheral lip of the container, and a transverse wall defining a convex surface facing inwardly of the container. The closure has a downwardly and outwardly inclined integral annular sealing surface at the juncture of the axial wall and transverse wall which engages the sealing surface of said container and places the axial wall under tension. The closure has a pressure relief rib at the juncture of the radial wall and axial wall such that axial force in the area overlying the rib will move a portion of the annular sealing surface of said closure away from the sealing surface of said container so that the pressure in the container can be relieved through a pressure relief opening through to the atmosphere and the closure can therafter be readily removed from the container.

Carbonated beverage package

A package is disclosed comprising a rigid tray member having an upstanding peripherally located rim portion. A plurality of discrete container assemblies are within the rigid tray member. Each container assembly has a plurality of individual containers in a regular geometric array interconnected by a unitary thermoplastic carrier means. A cover shroud overlays the tray and is secured to the tray rim to complete the package.

A thermoplastic threaded closure for a fluid container comprises a relatively rigid, generally curvilinear dome, and an internally threaded annular skirt depending from the periphery thereof. An annular plug sealing member depends from the inside concave surface of the dome, and is constructed and arranged for a slight interference fit within an associated container finish. A plurality of circumferentially spaced venting ports may be provided through the dome, between the plug and the skirt.

Disclosed is a closure system for a container made of flexible and resilient material comprising a lid engaging the finish of the container and an expansion means such as a toggle pressure ring pressing a sidewall of said lid outwardly against the finish of the container to lock and seal said lid on said container.

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for forming multi-directionally oriented plastic articles by accumulating a body of plasticized thermoplastic material in an amount at least sufficient to form the desired article, and advancing the material under pressure from said body forward and through an orifice. Apparatus for making plastic articles

A method for applying prefabricated parts for reinforcing, supporting, forming, reshaping or labeling to articles blow molded from a thermoplastic material. A hot parison is blown in a mold into a preform having a shape slightly smaller than the finished article. The preform is then removed from its mold and the prefabricated part is attached to the preform. The preform is then blow molded to impart the finished shape to the article and to embed the prefabricated part into the article.

An improved child resistant sifter fitment and closure for containers of harmful products includes an inverted cup-shaped body member formed of resilient plastic material and an integrally molded locking flap connected by an integral hinge to the periphery of the panel portion of the body member. The locking flap folds into a conforming recess in the top surface of the panel, and, in its folded position, all edges of the locking flap are flush with the adjacent top surfaces of the panel. Co-operating locking surfaces are provided on the flap and the body portion to retain the locking flap in its folded position, and to permit limited longitudinal movement of the locking flap relative to the panel. Dispensing openings are provided in the panel underlying the locking flap and an equal number of apertures are provided in the locking flap which are alignable with the dispensing openings by a longitudinal movement of the locking flap relative to the panel. Such longitudinal movement is produced by providing an upwardly opening recess in the portion of the side wall of the closure which underlies the hinged end of the locking flap, thus permitting the side wall portion to be moved inwardly by a compression action of the fingers to shift the locking flap longitudinally relative to the panel and align the dispensing openings.

Child resistant sifter type closure

A safety closure is provided for closing the open neck of containers having a bead type finish formed on such neck end. The closure comprises a unitary element molded from a resilient plastic material and having a generally horizontal circular panel portion and an integral, generally vertical peripheral flange portion. The flange portion is provided with an internally projecting rib which snaps into engagement with the groove normally provided beneath the bead of a container bead finish. In the closed position of the closure on the container, the bottom edge of the closure flange is flush with the side wall of the container neck and cannot be engaged by the fingers to pry the closure off of the container. The closure can be opened solely by applying a vertical force to a specific rim portion of the closure which causes an underlying specially shaped segment of the lower rim of the closure to be cammed outwardly sufficient to permit a fingernail to be inserted under such segment and the closure can then be stripped from engagement with the neck of the container.
