A navigation system extends satellite navigation to divers, underwater vehicles, and surface vessels. The navigation system comprises a location reference unit and a plurality of sub-surface beacon units. The location reference unit includes a receiver to receive navigation signals from earth-orbiting satellites and/or an inertial navigation system. The location reference unit further includes control circuits to communicate with to sub-surface beacon units and to transmit location information to said sub-surface beacon units, and a transceiver to transmit location information to the sub-surface beacon units. The beacon units include control circuits to determine the location of the beacon unit based on location information received from the location reference unit, and a transceiver to receive location information from the location reference unit and to transmit location information to a guided unit to provide navigation assistance to the guided unit.

System and method for extending GPS to divers and underwater vehicles

A system, method, and computer program product for computer analysis of lesions in digitized film-based and/or digital mammograms is described, wherein diagnostic information is combined from two different 2-D mammographic views with the information obtained from one view (or field of view) or mammographic position is processed with information obtained from a second (or a plurality of) related mammographic views to reduce false-positive findings (increase specificity) while preserving or improving diagnostic sensitivity. The digital mammograms or digitized film-based mammograms used, are those that are in current use, and those that conform to the requirements of the American College of Radiology and the Mammography Quality Standards Acts. In a preferred embodiment, a line constructed at the location of the chest wall (or parallel to the chest wall), the location of the nipple, and a line constructed perpendicular to the chest wall datum line and passing through the location of the nipple serve as reference datum across mammogram views. An algorithm locates suspicious lesions in each mammography view and evaluates the concordance of the 3-D spatial locations to rule out physically impossible false-positive findings, based on calculations of spatial relationships. Concordant findings are detected using anatomic landmarks and such findings are reported using terms that are currently in use by physicians and other health care providers in the field of mammography.

Methods and apparatus for computer automated diagnosis of mammogram images

A diver unit computes the direction and distance to a specified target. When the target is obstructed, the diver unit receives navigation assistance data from another diver unit. The navigation assistance data includes direction information that is referenced to a common reference line extending between the two diver units.

The beacon units include a processing circuits to determine the location of the beacon unit based on location information received from the surface unit, and a sonar transceiver to receive location information from the surface unit while the surface unit is floating on the surface; and to transmit location information to a diver unit to provide navigation assistance to the diver unit.

A communications network including a server having multiple entry ports and a plurality of workstations dynamically balances inbound and outbound to/from the server thereby reducing network latency and increasing network throughput. Workstations send data packets including network destination addresses to a network switch. A header is prepended to the data packet, the header identifying a switch output or destination port for transmitting the data packet to the network destination address. The network switch transfers the data packet from the switch input port to the switch destination output port whereby whenever the switch receives a data packet with the server address, the data packet is routed to any available output port of the switch that is connected to a Network Interface Card in the server. The switch includes circuitry for removing the routing header prior to the data packet exiting the switch. The server includes circuitry for returning to the workstation the address of the first entry port into the server or other network device that has more than one Network Interface Card installed therein.

Network server having dynamic load balancing of messages in both inbound and outbound directions

A LAN switch architecture has a hybrid switch fabric which combines crossbar and time division multiplexed bus architecture and allows next-available transmit channel routing and associative output-port routing. The LAN switch architecture has multiple port groups with multiple device ports, a switching fabric for facilitating communication between device ports in different port groups and a controller for controlling the switching fabric. Each of the multiple port groups comprises a communication channel for interconnecting the port group to the switching fabric.

Reflected light from the record in a optical disk player is directed at a string of photo sensitive diodes. Two adjacent diodes of this string of diodes receive light from a selected portion of the track on the disk. The outputs of these two adjacent diodes are summed together to generate the output signal for the optical disk player. The outputs of the two diodes are also subtracted from one another to generate a differential signal for tracking purposes. The magnitude of this differential signal is a measure of the relative magnitudes of the signals on the two adjacent diodes and therefore is one indication of how much of the light from the selected portion of the track reaches each of the diodes. When this differential output becomes larger than a preselected value, decode circuitry responds by changing the combination of adjacent diodes in the string to generate the video output signal and the difference signals.

Solid state electro-optical track follower array

A video recording disk that is optically readable has data represented in a form that permits data track revolutions to be spaced close together without an intervening guardband or with only a narrow guardband. The track revolutions are in two sets that form a parallel spiral or alternating concentric circles so that a track revolution of one set is separated from other track revolutions of the same set by intervening track revolutions of the other set. Binary data is represented on the tracks by deformations or the absence of deformations, and the record is read as destructive interference in a light beam produced at the location of a deformation. Deformations of the first set of tracks have a depth that is appropriate to be read with a wavelength designated lambda 1, and deformations of the second set have a depth to be read by light of a wavelength lambda 2. Light that is reflected from an adjacent track does not have any significant data content, and the track revolutions can be located close together without producing significant interference in the signals.
