An IC module for installation in a portable data carrier and for electrical connection with an electronic device located in the data carrier supports at least two different connection technologies. It carries for this purpose contacting elements having a first set of contacting pads for a first connection technology and a second set of contacting solder areas for a second connection technology. A contacting pad of the first set of contacting pads in each case is connected electroconductively to a contacting pad of the second set of contacting pads. The connection can preferably be electively effected by a pressure-form technology or by means of connection wires as a soldered connection.

A data carrier configuration method and apparatus are disclosed. The data carrier configuration including an electronic data carrier and a transport carrier. The transport carrier has a top surface and forms a recess, the area of the recess having an opening of a length and width sized to accommodate passage of the electronic data carrier. The recess has a depth that is substantially similar to the thickness of the electronic data carrier. The transport carrier serves as a base upon which the electronic data carrier will releasably attach.

Methods for the production of such a configuration include making the carrier rigid and the IC card flexible, so that introduction of the data carrier into the recess and removal of same from the recess are possible via unrolling of the electronic data carrier. The fastening arrangement is in the form of a self-adhesive layer, which is covered by a removable protective layer.

In a multilayer data carrier, an electronic module is provided in a corresponding opening or gap in at least one layer. For filling the remaining cavity after installation of the module in the gap, one provides on a layer adjacent the gap or on the layer containing the gap or directly on the electronic module a material preferably applied by printing technology and having a softening point lower than the softening point of the layer.

Method for producing a data carrier

The present invention relates to a data carrier, in particular an identity card, paper of value or the like, having applied thereto a plane element (OVD) with optically variable effects which are dependent on the viewing angle. Within at least a predefined area of the OVD there is additional information provided between the OVD and the surface of the data carrier in the form of characters, patterns or the like which, subsequently incorporated into the OVD, overlays the optically variable effect of the OVD and is likewise visually recognizable. The invention also relates to a method for producing such a data carrier.
