A fuel injection pump element 15 is mounted in an engine crankcase (1) adjacent its associated cylinder 9, and in substantially parallel orientation thereto so that the high pressure outlet 20 of the injection pump element 15 is close to the injection valve 13 thus permitting a very short injection line 21. Mounting the fuel injection pump element 15 within the crankcase provides a very rigid mechanical support therefor. Use of a very short fuel injection line provides superior hydraulic rigidity as is required for achieving high injection pressures. A special bushing 31 with fuel passage may be used to mount the pump plunger bushing 19. The special bushing 31 may be made of high quality material of low porosity to add strength and avoid fuel leakage that may otherwise occur because of the porosity of the case iron crankcase.

Internal combustion engine

A reciprocating internal combustion engine whose thermally loaded components are cooled by a cooling liquid. The internal combustion engine has at least one cylinder with piston and a cylinder head associated therewith having an exhaust duct, as well as at least one liquid/air heat exchanger, which receives cooling-air from a cooling fan. The cooling fan (2) has a diffuser (3) and the liquid/air heat exchanger (1) is adapted to operate at an elevated cooling-air pressure of the cooling fan (2). The pressure of the cooling-liquid system and/or the composition of the cooling liquid are selected such that the boiling point of the cooling liquid lies between 110.degree. and 130.degree. C., preferably around 125.degree. C. The exhaust duct (5) in the cylinder head (4) is substantially thermally isolated from nearby regions of the cylinder head.

Internal-combustion engine

The fuel pump permits a high delivery pressure with a low degree of pressure fluctuations and can be attached to the internal-combustion engine in a space-saving manner in axial prolongation of the camshaft and can be driven in a simple fashion. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the fuel pump serves as a tensioning device for a belt or chain drive by virtue of the drive wheel of the fuel pump acting as a belt or chain tensioning roller.

Fuel pump designed as rotor pump

A governor for adjusting a control-rod stop in a fuel-injection pump for an internal combustion engine. A controlling element is provided on the control-rod stop of the fuel injection pump, to which a throttled pressure fluid is fed, the discharge of which is controlled by a proportionally operating solenoid valve. An equilibrium prevails in the solenoid valve between the magnetic field applied to the solenoid armature and the compressive forces of the pressurized fluid. Depending on the magnitude of the respective forces, a larger or smaller discharge area can be unblocked thereby releasing or spilling the pressurized fluid.

Governor for a diesel engine

A regulation apparatus for determining the flow of fluid to a hyraulically-operated cooling fan of an air-cooled internal combustion engine includes an electromagnetic valve connected in the fluid line to the cooling fan, a control unit which sends a signal to the electromagnetic valve to control its operation, and multiple sensor elements which are positioned in or near the engine to detect the various parameters which affect its operation, the sensor elements sending electrical input signals to the control unit.
