The current invention refers to the LNT and the SCR catalysts designed for combined LNT-SCR applications. LNT catalysts are based on proton-conducting oxides of fluorite structure, namely Ca (Sr)&#x2014;La&#x2014;Ce (Zr, Pr) mixed oxides in which up to 40 mol-% of lanthanum is replaced by calcium and/or strontium, and up to 66 mol-% of cerium is replaced by zirconium and/or praseodymium, further combined with Pt&#x2014;Pd or Pt&#x2014;Pd&#x2014;Rh precious metal components. SCR catalysts are Cu/zeolite modified by citrate treatment or Cu&#x2014;Ce, Mn&#x2014;Ce or Co&#x2014;Ce/modified zeolite.

LNT and SCR catalysts for combined LNT-SCR applications

Systems and methods for estimating an efficiency of a catalyst placed in an exhaust path of a combustion engine are disclosed. In one example approach, a method comprises: ageing the catalyst consecutively at different temperatures for definite time periods; measuring the catalyst conversion efficiency after each ageing step; calculating the ageing factor for each step of the ageing procedure and the accumulative value of the ageing factors for all steps of the ageing procedure; estimating catalyst efficiency correlation factors related to the measured catalyst conversion efficiency for each temperature point and for all ageing conditions; determining a correlation between the catalyst efficiency correlation factors and the accumulative value of the ageing factors; and calculating the conversion efficiency of the aged catalyst based on a predetermined correlation between the accumulative ageing factor and the catalyst efficiency correlation factor.

Estimation of efficiency for aged catalysts

A catalyst composition for facilitating the oxidation of soot from diesel engine exhaust is provided. The catalyst composition includes a catalytic metal selected from Pt, Pd, Pt&#x2014;Pd, Ag, or combinations thereof, an active metal oxide component containing Cu and La, and a support selected from alumina, silica, zirconia, or combinations thereof. The platinum group metal loading of the composition is less than about 20 g/ft. The catalyst composition may be provided on a diesel particulate filter by impregnating the filter with an alumina, silica or zirconia sol solution modified with glycerol and/or saccharose, impregnating the filter with a stabilizing solution, and impregnating the filter with a solution containing the active metal oxide precursor(s) and the catalytic metal precursor(s). The resulting catalyst coated diesel particulate filter provides effective soot oxidation, exhibits good thermal stability, has a high BET surface area, and exhibits minimal backpressure.

Soot oxidation catalyst and method of making

The invention relates to a catalyst for the oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) at low temperatures, which is a catalytically active composition based on platinum and cobalt. The catalyst can be used in the removal of CO from hydrogen-rich gas for fuel cell technology in order to avoid poisoning the electrodes with CO. Further fields of application relate to the automobile sector, and in particular, to the effective removal of CO during cold starting of a diesel or petrol engine and also to air purification systems for quality control of air in interior spaces, e.g., the removal of CO in a tunnel, an underground railway, multi-story car parks or submarines.

Carbon monoxide catalyst

A catalyst composition is provided for use on a diesel particulate filter which facilitates the oxidation of soot from diesel engine exhaust and which generates low NOemissions during regeneration of the filter. The catalyst composition includes a catalytic metal comprising a platinum group metal selected from Pt, Pd, Pt&#x2014;Pd, or combinations thereof, an active metal oxide component containing Cu and La; and an oxide component selected from oxides of Co, Fe, or combinations thereof. The catalyst composition includes a support selected from alumina, silica, zirconia, or combinations thereof. The catalyst composition may be provided on a diesel particulate filter by impregnating the filter with an alumina, silica or zirconia sol solution modified with glycerol and/or saccharose, impregnating the filter with a stabilizing solution, and impregnating the filter with a solution containing the catalyst metal precursor(s), the active metal oxide precursor(s) and the Co or Fe oxide(s). The resulting catalyst coated diesel particulate filter provides effective soot oxidation, exhibits good thermal stability, has a high BET surface area, exhibits minimal backpressure, and produces low NOemissions during filter regeneration.

Catalyst composition for diesel particulate filter

The present invention relates to an oxidation catalyst comprising a substrate and an oxidation coating of platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), cobalt (Co), iron (Fe) and cerium (Ce) applied to the substrate. Furthermore the invention relates to a method for producing such an oxidation catalyst and an internal combustion engine using such an oxidation catalyst.

Oxidation catalysts

Disclosed is a mixed oxide catalyst, preferably for selective oxidation of CO in hydrogen rich gas mixtures, or in oxygen containing gas mixtures in the presence of water and carbon dioxide, comprising about 15 to 30 at.-% Cu, about 55 to 77 at.-% Mn and about 7.5 to 10 at.-% Ce.

Ce/Cu/Mn-catalysts

The present invention provides a regenerable catalyst composition suitable for entrapping SO. The composition of the invention comprises a copper oxide having the formula (Cu/(A oxide) where A oxide is SiO, Zr&#x2014;SiO, AlO, TiO&#x2014;AlO, ZrOand InOor mixtures thereof. Copper loading may vary from about 10 to 60 mol % and is preferably about 25 mol %. The catalyst composition adsorbs SOas metal sulfate under lean conditions and desorbs accumulated SOas SOunder rich conditions. Such reversible SOtrap are able to operate under conventional NOtrap operating conditions to prevent sulfur poisoning of the NOtrap. Furthermore, these traps may be regenerated under rich conditions at 300-450&#xb0; C. In another embodiment of the present invention, an irreversible SOtrap capable of collecting SOunder lean conditions is provided. The traps of this embodiment include praseodymia, zirconia-praseodymia and mixed manganese-yttria and mixtures thereof.

The present invention involves an exhaust gas catalyst and method of manufacturing same. The invention provides for a cost-effective material which lowers the cold-start emissions from the exhaust of vehicles. The invention is a passive system which accelerates the light-off temperature of catalyst in a cost-effective fashion. The invention includes a method of manufacturing an exhaust gas catalyst capable of lowering cold-start emissions including the steps of providing an oxide mixture having praseodymium and cerium, doping about 0&#x2013;10% weight zirconium and about 0&#x2013;10% weight yttrium to the oxide mixture, adding about 0&#x2013;2% weight metal including palladium, platinum, or rhodium to the oxide mixture, mixing gamma aluminum to the oxide mixture for washcoating and washcoating the oxide mixture onto a monolithic substrate.

Exhaust gas catalyst and method of manufacturing same

The present invention provides new platinum group metal ('PGM') free catalytic compositions that comprise silver and/or cobalt stabilized ceria. These compositions facilitate soot oxidation during the regeneration of diesel particulate filters (DPF) thereby replacing PGM formulations. The compositions of the invention are particularly useful as washcoat compositions for DPFs as part of an automotive after-treatment system. Among the formulations tested, the silver-stabilized ceria and cobalt-stabilized ceria formulations e.g. can oxidize soot at 250&#x2013;300&#xb0; C. in the presence of NOand oxygen, while silver-stabilized ceria can oxidize diesel soot even in the presence of oxygen as the sole oxidizing agent at these temperatures. A perovshite composition containing Ag&#x2014;La&#x2014;Mn was very active at temperatures above 300&#xb0; C.
