Mechanisms for identifying obstacles in a landing zone are disclosed. A first polarization elevation angle matrix is generated based on reflected radar signals having a first polarization sense. A second polarization elevation angle matrix based on reflected radar signals having a second polarization sense that differs from the first polarization sense is generated. The first polarization elevation angle matrix and the second polarization elevation angle matrix are integrated to form an integrated elevation angle matrix that identifies first scatterers and second scatterers with respect to the landing zone.

Methods and apparatuses of scene illumination for millimeter wave sensing are presented. One embodiment features illuminating a subject with millimeter wave radiation produced by at least one fluorescent light, generating an image with a passive sensor using the millimeter wave radiation reflected from the subject, and analyzing the image to detect representations corresponding to concealed objects associated with the subject. Another embodiment features at least one fluorescent light which illuminates a subject with millimeter wave radiation, and passive millimeter wave sensor which receives the millimeter wave radiation effected from the subject, and generates an image which is analyzed to detect image representations corresponding to concealed objects. Another embodiment features at least one florescent light behind an optically opaque medium which is transparent to millimeter wave radiation, and illuminating a subject with millimeter wave radiation produced by the fluorescent light.

The present invention is generally directed to an interconnect structure, which in accordance with exemplary embodiments, includes a first layer and a second layer for connecting an integral first signal path with a second signal path. The first layer can have a first conductor and a slot. The second layer can be positioned to be in operable communication by an opening between the first layer and the second signal path such that a distance from the first signal path to a second surface of the second layer establishes an evanescent mode of signal propagation.

Millimeterwave module compact interconnect

A method and system to create an ultra wideband (UWB) signal are disclosed. The UWB signal comprises a carrier frequency with each cycle reversing in phase. The UWB signal is generated from a limited number of high power narrow band amplifiers. Each amplifier's output signal is combined to produce the desired UWB signal. The combination may occur in a combiner network or in free space.

Method and apparatus for developing high range resolution radar target profiles. An outgoing radar waveform is encoded with coefficients corresponding to a wavelet transformation and then transmitted in the direction of a radar target. Incoming waveforms, including return waveforms reflected from the radar target, are decoded using an inverse wavelet transform to produce a high range resolution profile of the target. In an exemplary embodiment, the outgoing waveform is phase-shifted to create finite-duration waveform pulses, each pulse having a phase-state pattern corresponding to a set of coefficients in a transposed wavelet transform matrix. Phase-state duration is adjusted to achieve a desired range resolution.

Wavelet-based radar

A radar system in which a frequency agile synthesizer is used to provide rapid frequency shifts and in which measures are taken to maintain phase coherency. The system is fully coherent such that all signals are derived from a common source and are capable of high pulse repetition rates in excess of 1 MHz. There are no inherent transmit duty cycle restrictions and the system is able to transmit complex phase and frequency modulated waveforms. A frequency interleaving scheme is used to resolve range ambiguities at high pulse repetition frequencies and the use of a complementary phase coding scheme allows a high range resolution processing with the transmitted waveforms.

Phase coherent radar system using fast frequency agile waveform synthesis

This invention concerns suspended stripline having RF and LO inputs, in connection with which is used a novel rat race mixer (30). The rat race mixer is in the form of a ring (31) formed on a substrate (18), with the ring being entirely surrounded by a ground plane (24) located on the same side of the substrate (18) as the ring. Diode means (32 and 34) are utilized on the outer part of the ring (31), connecting the ring to the ground plane (24) at locations of RF and LO maxima. A high impedance lead (36) in the center of the ring (31) defines the location at which the IF is extracted, and in a preferred embodiment, a bellows (42) supported by the centerpost (40) of a coaxial bulkhead connector (46) is in contact with the high impedance lead (36).
