A method for the indirect application of printing liquid onto a printing material provides an intermediate carrier, preferably a circulating belt, a liquid conditioning medium including a first substance applied onto the intermediate carrier and a printing liquid, in particular an inkjet ink, including a second substance applied onto the conditioning medium on the intermediate carrier. The printing liquid is situated as droplets or a layer substantially on the conditioning medium and the droplets or the layer form a contact region on their underside with the conditioning medium. The printing liquid is heated, preferably by way of a dryer and the printing liquid is transferred from the intermediate carrier onto the printing material.

A sheet-transporting drum includes sheet-supporting areas each being formed of a first comb segment and a second comb segment having segment teeth. At least one of the comb segments is rotatable for adaptation to a sheet format. A mechanical leading-edge gripper is provided on the first comb segment and a pneumatic trailing-edge gripper is provided on the second comb segment. A mechanical trailing-edge gripper is additionally disposed on the second comb segment and is deactivatable in particular by format adjustments. This advantageously allows either the trailing edge of a sheet to be securely held down mechanically or a full-bleed print to be applied to the sheet when the trailing edge of the sheet is held down pneumatically. A sheet brake system for braking printed sheets includes a plurality of brake elements each circulating about at least one respective geometric revolution axis, and a common drive roll for driving the brake elements. An apparatus for guiding and transferring a sheet in a printing machine from a first cylinder to a gripper of a second cylinder in which the apparatus has a guide device for a holding element, which is held outside the first and second cylinder. In this way, the design of the guide apparatus can be independent of the first and second cylinders. In addition, a longer time period is available for gripping, tensioning and transferring the sheet. The apparatus can be used both in a recto printing machine and in a turner device in recto and verso printing.

A device for transporting a sheet for a sheet-processing machine in a processing direction includes first grippers for gripping the sheet at a leading gripper edge, as viewed in the direction of processing, the first grippers revolving in a first direction during operation. Also provided is a cylinder bearing the first grippers, and having a support surface formed at the circumference thereof for supporting the sheet gripped by the first grippers. Further provided are second grippers for taking over the leading gripper edge of the respective sheet from the first grippers, the second grippers revolving in a second direction opposite to the first direction; and at least one pair of sheet supports rotating about a rotational axis and formed with a pitch surface disposed concentric with the rotational axis, the pitch surface having an extent along the rotational axis less than the width of a respective nonprinted lateral margin of the respective sheet, and serving to press the sheet against the support surface within a respective lateral margin in regions of common normals of the support surface and the pitch surfaces. Additionally provided are suction grippers revolvable in the second direction and for taking over from the cylinder a trailing gripper margin of the sheet which has been placed on the support surface of the cylinder by the sheet supports.
