Systems and methods of a portable communications device and a product exchanging direct commands or requests via bar codes to address a condition of the product are provided. Some methods can include the portable communications device scanning a bar code displayed on the product and generating and displaying a bar code to be scanned by the product, wherein the bar codes represent direct commands or requests to be executed by the portable communications device or the product to address the condition of the product. Additionally or alternatively, some methods can include the product scanning a bar code displayed on the portable communications device and generating and displaying a bar code to be scanned by the portable communications device, wherein the bar codes represent direct commands or requests to be executed by the product or the portable communications device to address the condition of the product.

Systems and methods of user code synchronization with Z-wave door locks are provided. Methods can include determining an occurrence of a predetermined event, upon the occurrence of the predetermined event, identifying a set of a plurality of user codes stored in a control panel to be synchronized, and wirelessly transmitting the set of the plurality of user codes to be synchronized from the control panel to at least one door lock using a Z-wave communications protocol.

A system and method to use bar codes to facilitate obtaining information as to a product or service are provided. A smart phone, with a downloaded scanning application, can scan a bar code associated with a product or service. Information can be extracted from the code by the phone and the scanning application and forwarded automatically to a web server, via one or more computer networks. The server can analyze the information and extract other, responsive data from its data base. The responsive data can be downloaded to the scanning device for use with the product or service.

A system is provided, where the system includes at least one security system sensor, at least one home automation device and a security system processor that monitors the security system sensor and generates an alarm upon activation of the at least one security system sensor. The security system processor also monitors the at least one home automation device and generates an alarm upon detecting the manual activation of the at least one home automation device.

This invention relates to a central security and alarm system that provides an ability to respond to an emergency signal sent from a personal life safety device to a system central monitoring location using Wi-Fi, where the emergency signal include GPS coordinates of a location of the personal life safety device so that emergency responders can be sent to investigate and/or respond to the emergency. The system includes at least a personal life safety device including GPS and Wi-Fi capability, and an ability to respond to a user input to generate and transmit an emergency signal and a central monitoring station constructed to receive and respond to the emergency signal by identifying the user GPS coordinates, and initiate a response by emergency responders.

The instant invention includes a central security and alarm system that operates to protect a home or business and includes a personal safety device to communicate with a hearing-challenged end-user at the protected home or business. The system includes at least one alarm event detection device, and a central panel in communication with the personal safety device and the at least one alarm event detection device, the central panel comprising a processor for carrying out a method of communicating to the hearing-challenged end-user at the detection of alarm events via the personal safety device. The method includes detecting an alarm event at the home or business and notifying a designated, hearing-challenged end-user that the alarm event has occurred by causing a life safety device in the possession of the hearing challenged end-user to communicate the detected event by a mechanical communication signal.

A keypad security apparatus and security system are provided. The keypad includes a network connector to connect the keypad to a data network, an address tracker to track an address assigned to the keypad, and a data input to receive user input data, including arm/disarm commands and to transmit the data via the data network. The network may be a LAN, such an Ethernet connecting the keypad via a router to an internet. A security control panel may also be connected to the local area network. Audio data may be input to the keypad and transmitted via the network voice data over data network, such as voice over IP data (VoIP). The address assigned to the keypad may be an IP address or a local area network address. The keypad may be connected as a wireless device.

Security system communication with a user device via electronic means, including via e-mail transmitted over the internet are provided. A security system interface receives a signal indicating an occurrence of an event, such as a fault or alarm condition, in a zone of the security system; a memory stores a user e-mail address associated with the security system and the address of a server for providing internet service, such as an ISP server; and an e-mail generator transmits to the server an e-mail message based on the event. The communication node in such a system may be integrated with the control panel of the security system. The e-mail generator can transmit the e-mail using SMTP or other TCP/IP. An attachment of the e-mail, such as a picture or an audio or video file relevant to the event or the zone may be transmitted.
