The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for regulating expression of heterologous nucleotide sequences in a plant. Compositions include a novel nucleotide sequence for regulatory elements from Lamium Leaf Distortion Associated Virus. A method for expressing a heterologous nucleotide sequence in a plant using the regulatory element sequences disclosed herein is provided. The present embodiments generally relate to methods of non-destructively imaging plant root damage by insect root herbivores and evaluating the efficacy of insecticidal materials associated with the roots of plants against the insect root herbivores, useful for automated high throughput bioassays.

Methods and compositions are provided which employ a silencing element that, when ingested by a pest, such as a Coleopteran plant pest or aplant pest, decrease the expression of a target sequence in the pest.
