A detection apparatus for, and a method of, detecting the location of the tip of a tubular element, in particular a needle, within a region, in particular one of the epidural space and the peritoneal cavity.

Detection apparatus and method

A power source that is powered by a user to generate electrical energy includes a generator assembly and a fluid source. The generator assembly includes a rotor, a stator, and a fluid driven motor that is coupled to the rotor. Movement of the rotor relative to the stator results in the generation of electrical energy. The fluid source is manually powered by the user to direct pressurized fluid to the fluid driven motor to move the rotor relative to the stator. The fluid source can include a first fluid pump that is powered by the user to generate the pressurized fluid and a second fluid pump that is powered by the user to generate the pressurized fluid. One or both of the fluid pumps can include a fluid bellows that is powered by the user to generate the pressurized fluid. Alternatively, one or both of the fluid pumps can include a cylinder and a piston that is moved within the cylinder by the user to generate the pressurized fluid.

Electrical power source

A dual stage, head stack assembly () for a disk drive () having a storage disk () is provided herein. The head stack assembly () includes an actuator arm (), a coarse positioner (), a transducer assembly (), a base plate () and a fine positioner (). The coarse positioner () moves the actuator arm (). The transducer assembly () includes a load beam (), a flexure () and a data transducer (). The base plate () includes at least one positioner cavity () which receives the fine positioner (). A control system () directs current to the coarse positioner () to move the actuator arm () to position the data transducer () at or near a target track () on a storage disk (). The control system () also directs current to the fine positioner () to precisely position and maintain the data transducer on the target track (). Because the fine positioner () independently moves only the transducer assembly (), a higher system band-width is achieved.

Dual stage, head stack assembly for a disk drive

A portable power source () includes a housing (), a stator component (), a rotor component (), a crank assembly (), and a control system (). The stator component () is secured to the housing (), the rotor component () rotates relative to the stator component () and the crank assembly () is coupled to the rotor component (). The crank assembly () is rotated by the user relative to the housing (). As provided herein, rotation of the crank assembly () by the user results in rotation of the rotor component () relative to the stator component (). In one embodiment, the control system () controls the amount of torque required to rotate the crank assembly (). For example, the amount of torque required to rotate the crank assembly () is varied according to the rotational position of the crank assembly (). In one embodiment, the crank assembly () includes a one-way drive mechanism assembly () that allows for unidirection rotation of the rotor component () and pedals (A) (B) that move up and down.

Mobile electrical power source

A portable power source () includes a housing (), a stator component (), a rotor component (), a crank assembly (), and a control system (). The stator component () is secured to the housing (), the rotor component () rotates relative to the stator component () and the crank assembly () is coupled to the rotor component (). The crank assembly () is rotated by the user relative to the housing (). As provided herein, rotation of the crank assembly () by the user results in rotation of the rotor component () relative to the stator component (). In one embodiment, the control system () controls the amount of torque required to rotate the crank assembly (). For example, the amount of torque required to rotate the crank assembly () is varied according to the rotational position of the crank assembly ().

The manufacturing fixture ( ) includes a fixture cavity ( ) which receives the magnet powder ( ) and an orientating device ( ) which generates flux lines ( ) which extend across the fixture cavity ( ). The fixture cavity ( ) includes a cavity axis ( ), a cavity transition ( ) and a cavity perimeter ( ). Importantly, the flux lines ( ) extend substantially transverse to the cavity axis ( ) near the cavity transition ( ) and the cavity perimeter ( ) and substantially parallel with the cavity axis ( ) intermediate the cavity transition ( ) and the cavity perimeter ( ). This allows for a magnet ( ) having higher magnetic flux densities at the sides ( ) ( ) ( ), and higher average magnetic flux densities in the magnet ( ).

Fixture for manufacturing magnets for a voice coil motor

A permanent magnet for an actuator motor of a disk drive is provided herein. The permanent magnet includes an arch shaped magnet body which is made of a magnet powder. The magnet body including a first segment and a second segment which are substantially side by side. Each segment has a north pole and a spaced apart south pole. Each segment includes a first region having a first region axis which extends between the north pole and the south pole and a second region which encircles the first region. Importantly, the magnet powder is aligned during manufacturing to form a powder pattern having first region powder lines in the first region which are substantially parallel with the first region axis and second region powder lines in the second region which are angled relative to the first region axis. Further, the magnet body includes a magnetization pattern having first region magnetization lines in the first region which are substantially parallel with the first region axis and second region magnetization lines in the second region which are angled relative to the first region axis.

Specially oriented material and magnetization of permanent magnets

A method for manufacturing a direct current motor having a stator and a rotor. The stator has a first number of slots, and the rotor includes a permanent magnet having a second number of alternately magnetized poles. The method includes calculating a magnetization pattern based on a magnetizing construct associated with said direct current motor, which magnetizing construct includes a hypothetical magnetizing stator having the same number of magnetizing teeth as the second number of alternately magnetized poles. The method further includes having the permanent magnet magnetized with substantially the calculated magnetization pattern, thereby forming the direct current motor.

Methods and apparatus for improved DC motors and magnetic clutches

A ten pole/twelve slot brushless DC motor for a disk drive spindle includes a base; a cylindrical rotor structure rotating relative to the base and a generally symmetrically slotted stator structure fixed about an axis of rotation. The rotor structure includes a permanent magnet ring structure defining ten permanently magnetized alternating north-south magnet segments. The stator structure includes a ferromagnetic core defining twelve stator slots between twelve stator poles. Coils of insulated wire are wound around the stator poles in one of a plurality of disclosed winding patterns and connected into a series of phases, e.g. three phases.
