The invention provides a system and method for assembling an electrical module. The module comprises a circuit board, a substrate and an electrical component carried on the substrate. The substrate is formed by a stamping process an is mounted at a location on the circuit board. The substrate forms part of an electrical circuit with a circuit in the circuit board and dissipates heat from the circuit board. The substrate and the circuit board are both initially carried in respective frames. Alignment registered in the frames allow the frames to be aligned such that the substrate is positioned at the location on the circuit board.

This invention relates to optoelectronic transceivers used in optical communication systems, and in specific to an optical transceiver configured for transmission and reception of optical signals or rays within an asymmetrically shaped optical profile. The invention provides a transceiver for communicating optical rays through relatively-positioned, shaped lenses while preventing the saturation of a photodetector by an adjacent LED, thereby avoiding any idling of the communication system, minimizing the transceiver's size, and isolating the optical profiles for optimum transmission and reception of optical rays. The transceiver may operate in a half duplex mode, while being capable of operating without additional modifications in a full duplex mode.

Infrared transceiver assembly for asymmetric data transmission

An infrared transceiver for an application interface card for use with a computer in a wireless Local Area Network. The transceiver includes a multi-facet beam deflector to maximize dispersion of the infrared beams in a room while maintaining a compact arrangement for the interface card. In another aspect, the transceiver includes a revolving turret to provide directional capabilities for serial IR or point-to-point communication applications. The transceiver is suitable for PCMCIA interface cards.

Infrared transceiver for an application interface card

An infrared transceiver for use with a computer in a wireless Local Area Network. The transceiver comprises a light emitting diode array and photodiodes. The transceiver is operable in a diffused beam arrangement and a directed beam arrangement. The transceiver is converted to directed beam operation by attaching a user installable collimator. The collimator redirects the beams into parallel beams, and the direction of the parallel beams is controlled through an adjustable tilt stand. The collimator is detachable for converting back to diffused beam operation.

Combination diffused and directed infrared transceiver

A universally directionally adjustable optical transceiver. The transceiver comprises a platform for mounting a light emitting diode array and photodiodes. The platform is connected to a mounting ring to provide a first axis of rotation. The mounting ring is connected to a support plate to provide a second axis of rotation. The first and second axis intersect and are mutually perpendicular to provide an omni-directional pointing capability for the transceiver.

The expandable jack has first and second members attached by a pivotal connection. The members can be expanded about the pivotal connection to form a receptacle for receiving a plug and, when not in use, the members can be collapsed about the pivotal connection to fit into storage spaces of reduced size. The jack is of particular use in application interface cards for laptop, notebook and palmtop computers. In such cards, the jack is mounted on a platform which is movable between an exposed position, external of the card, and a retracted storage position within the body of the card. A plug can be inserted into the expandable jack while avoiding interference with obstructions, such as a cable extending from an adjacent card in the computer.

A circuit card has a circuit module including circuit component assembly and an electrical connector attached to the component assembly. A protective metal covering closely girds and substantially encloses the module in a one-piece substantially rigid jacket. An opening in the jacket exposes a portion of the electrical connector for connection to external equipment such as a computer.

An extension module for tandem connection to a base circuit card having an external sheet material jacket girding the card. The module includes a module housing and a pair of spaced apart parallel support fingers extending from the housing. The outer sides of the support fingers are configured for slidable insertion into corresponding spaced apertures in the rearward end of the base circuit card to engage inner surfaces of the jacket adjacent opposite side edges of the jacket of the card. An electrical connector is located between the support fingers and is adapted for mating connection with a corresponding electrical connector located at the rearward end of the base circuit card, when the extension module is connected to the base circuit card. When the extension module is connected to the base circuit card by substantially full insertion of the support fingers into the base circuit card the engagement of the jacket embracing the fingers rigidly joins the extension module to the base card to form an integral extended circuit card.

This is a data card frame provided with a unique end rail which is bifurcated to form a receptacle port which can accept any number of different connector headers each of which is designed not only to mate with a selected external plug or terminal but is further uniquely designed to mate with a particular data card being supported in the frame. The receptacle port in the frame is also provided with locking detents coded to assure the correct positioning of the connector header in the receptacle port during insertion therein. The receptacle port is further provided with metal latching inserts matching locking hooks on a mating external plug that permit the external plug to be inserted into, with minimal force and securely latched thereto.
