Photo-stress by focal light bleaches the retina and temporarily reduced retinal function. Recovery from suppression is measurable by monocular and binocular endpoints, when recovery is prolonged a disease is suspected. The monocular endpoint is the moment the dark central afterimage representing the macula becomes the same brightness as the peripheral ring representing unstimulated retina and the binocular endpoint is brightness equality of rivalrous stimuli. Four embodiments are described for measuring relative brightness sense photo-stress utilizing monocular and binocular methodology.

Monocular and binocular relative focal photo-stress

Active amblyopia therapy is described in this invention where the child actively participates in treatment by viewing binocular stereo image pairs in a game like experience. A method for easily measuring the amblyopic defect prior to each therapy session to validate the progress of therapy is disclosed. Therapy is provided in two embodiments viewable on graphic display devices. My first embodiment controls dominance by switching suppression between the eyes with adjustments in the rivalrous brightness balance. My second embodiment stimulates binocular pathways in both eyes using primeval motion in depth pathways where time delay between stereo images in motion produce insuppressible three dimensional effects.

My invention is an automated self-testing method utilizing binary choice, which is applicable to monocular and binocular eye tests and can be administered on computer, cellular phones, and other electronic devices. Binary choice of match or no match, yes or no, present or absence provides simple means of automated testing by stepwise progression through staircase algorisms. Necessary devices have been introduced in order to fully utilize the power of binary choice self testing, such as, (1) printed display overlays for testing fine visual acuity at near, (2) bright illuminator of printed overlays to allow automated potential vision testing, (3) the use of complementary color lenses and color test isopters for binocular perimetry. All the programs are linked together in a multifunction electronic program tailored for Internet applications

My invention is a mixer and dispenser having a dispensing top with an outflow channel, an air vent, and an air vent valve that adjusts the vacuum inside the dispenser; a rotor attached to a battery powered motor; and two switches, one for operating automatically upon pouring and the other manually activated. The vacuum system controls the flow rate during pouring and the constant mixing disperses the ingredients so that the samples dispensed are representative of the original mixture.

The self-locking and adjustable apparatus can be used alone to apply circumferential force or with fasteners to apply linear force.

A vision evaluation device which measures the three vision parameters of stereoscopic vision, fusion testing, and fusion recovery measurement. The device comprises a stereo-pair of images in constant view through the eye pieces of a lighted View Master.RTM. slide viewer. Two viewers are utilized, with the viewers using identical '4-Dot' stereo pairs but differing in that the right and left images are transposed. A reel mount in the View-Master viewer is mounted with a graded series of neutral density filters, with the filters being arranged so that the filter density increases over one eye as the reel is advanced with a lever, until the color of the solid circle changes. Use of the two viewers permits ready identification of an eye with nerve conduction defect, with one viewer measuring right eye defects and the other measuring left eye defects.

Portable device for evaluation of binocular vision problems

A device for testing vision potential of humans comprises an enclosure containing two transparent areas through one surface, two pairs of rollers, means for turning one of the rollers, a length of material fitted around the two pairs of rollers in snug engagement therewith so that by operating the means for turning one of the rollers the material moves around the two pairs of rollers, said material having a series of vision testing lines of indicia sized to test visual acuity from 20/20 to 20/200, each of said lines being visible in one area and each of said lines having on the material and visible through the other area markings from 20/20 to 20/200. Two sources of illumination are disposed within the enclosure, one illumination source being disposed in a position to illuminate the line of indicia and the other being positioned to illuminate the series of numbers from 20/20 to 20/200. Means for providing sufficient energy to the illumination means to enable them to provide illumination and means for positioning the person to be tested at the desired from the device are provided. The device has particular applicability for determining the vision potential of humans having a cataract in one or both eyes which through utilizing a device with a pinhole through which the person to be tested views the lines of indicia one can accurately determine the visual acuity which will be achieved following cataract surgery.
