An RFID reader includes a transmitter, a receiver, and an evaluator. The receiver receives signals from RFID tags within a given number of slots of a time frame with a given frame size and provides a number of successful slots and a number of collided slots. The evaluator sets a modified frame size based on an estimated number of RFID tags which is determined based on the frame size, the number of successful slots, and the number of collided slots. The invention also refers to a corresponding method.

Embodiments provide an RFID reader. The RFID reader includes a collision detector, a decoder and a frame length adjuster. The collision detector is configured to detect for each slot of a plurality of slots of a current frame, in which a collision of signals transmitted by at least two RFID tags occurred, a signal property of a signal of the signals transmitted by at least two RFID tags. A reader for wirelessly receiving a signal from a tag, the signal having a portion on a first side, a portion on a second side and a synchronization sequence to be detected between the first and the second side, wherein the portion on the first side, the synchronization sequence and the portion on the second side are serially arranged with each other, has a processor. An audio encoding apparatus includes an encoder for encoding a time segment of an input audio signal to be encoded to obtain a corresponding encoded signal segment. The audio encoding apparatus further includes a decoder for decoding the encoded signal segment to obtain a re-decoded signal segment. A clipping detector is provided for analyzing the re-decoded signal segment with respect to at least one of an actual signal clipping or an perceptible signal clipping and for generating a corresponding clipping alert. The encoder is further configured to again encode the time segment of the audio signal with at least one modified encoding parameter resulting in a reduced clipping probability in response to the clipping alert.

Exact data-rate analysis of the information signal portions to be transmitted in a subsequent transmission cycle per time-division multiplexing process shall be initially omitted. Instead, on the basis of highly accurate estimated values for the subsequent data rates, estimated values for relative waiting times are transmitted, in a current transmission cycle, from the current time slice to the subsequent time slice of the same service. In the subsequent transmission cycle, actual data rates may be set which may deviate from the estimated data rates for the individual information signals, as a result of which predicted time-slice boundaries for the subsequent transmission cycle may shift. However, the potential shift in the time-slice boundaries is subject to several boundary conditions. No time slice of the subsequent transmission cycle can start prior to its signaled estimated starting time. With constant data rates, the estimated time-slice structure and the actual time-slice structure are identical.

Apparatus and method for transmitting a plurality of information signals in flexible time-division multiplexing

A terrestrial transmitting station for sending out a terrestrial broadcast signal includes a first receiver for receiving a signal to obtain a satellite receive signal, a second receiver for receiving a local signal to obtain a local receive signal and a signal combiner for combining the first receive signal with the local receive signal to form a combination signal. The signal combiner is implemented to generate the combination signal so that the combination signal is formed according to a hierarchical modulation, wherein the first receive signal is contained in a base layer of the hierarchical modulation and wherein the local receive signal is contained in an overlay layer of the hierarchical modulation. A terrestrial transmitting station further includes a transmitter for sending out the combination signal. A broadcast system includes a first transmitter and at least one terrestrial transmitting station. The information emitted from the satellite-based broadcast system may be received using an associated receiver. An inventive broadcast system allows adding a local information to a supraregionally emitted transmit signal in a frequency-efficient way.

A convolution interleaver for processing a codeword derived from an input block of symbols using a redundancy-adding coding, and having more symbols than the input block, wherein the codeword has a sequence of interleaving units, wherein each interleaving unit has at least two symbols, includes an interleaver. The interleaver changes the sequence of interleaving units to obtain an interleaved codeword having a changed sequence of interleaving units. In particular, the order of the symbols within an interleaving unit is not changed by the interleaver. The order of the interleaving units in the codeword among each other or with respect to a previous or subsequent codeword is changed, however.

A device for transmitting an information signal having several transmit signals has a modulator for generating a first and a second transmit signal. The first transmit signal is transmittable via a first spatial emitter, and the second transmit signal is transmittable via a second spatial emitter. The modulator has an OFDM control stage to load a first group of OFDM carriers with first information to generate the first transmit signal, and to load a second group of OFDM carriers with second information to generate the second transmit signal. The invention relates to a method and a device for transmitting information symbols using a plurality of carriers, wherein a first transmission symbol is produced () on the basis of an information symbol. A second transmission symbol is also produced () on the basis of the same information symbol, wherein the second transmission symbol differs from the first transmission symbol. The first and second transmission symbols are modulated () on a carrier and transmitted () at different intervals. The invention further relates to a method and a device for receiving information symbols represented by the first and second information symbols, wherein both transmission symbols received are used in order to extract the information symbol contained in both transmission symbols.

A method and an apparatus relating to a fine frequency synchronization compensating for a carrier frequency deviation from an oscillator frequency in a multi-carrier demodulation system of the type capable of carrying out a differential phase decoding of multi-carrier modulated signals, the signals comprising a plurality of symbols, each symbol being defined by phase differences between simultaneous carriers having different frequencies. A phase difference between phases of the same carrier in different symbols is determined. Thereafter, a frequency offset is determined by eliminating phase shift uncertainties related to the transmitted information from the phase difference making use of a M-PSK decision device. Finally, a feedback correction of the carrier frequency deviation is performed based on the determined frequency offset. Alternatively, an averaged frequency offset can be determined by averaging determined frequency offsets of a plurality of carriers. Then, the feedback correction of the frequency deviation is performed based on the averaged frequency offset.
