A brush holder apparatus has a stationary support member having two opposing grooves, a fork electrical connector, and a conductive bar passing through a main body of the stationary support member. A brush holder is releasably affixed to the stationary support member, and has two rails that slide along the grooves. The brush holder's knife electrical connector mates with the fork electrical connector. A brush spring is clipped on the brush holder, and presses a brush against a collector. A brush lead connects the brush to a brush terminal. The brush terminal has a generally L-shaped body with a lower part thereof retained under a terminal compression plate, and an upper part thereof located on a front side of the terminal compression plate. The brush terminal is removed from or installed into a front side of the brush holder, and by hand or without the use of any tools.

A brush holder apparatus includes a stationary support member having at least one groove and a fork electrical connector. A brush retainment member has a brush restraint apparatus having a plunger brush restraint configured to restrain a brush from sliding within the brush retainment member by pressing it against the brush retainment member. The brush retainment member has at least one rail configured to slide along the at least one groove, and a knife electrical connector configured to mate with the fork electrical connector. The brush retainment member is configured to be releasably affixed to the stationary support member. The stationary support member is configured for electrical connection to a collector mount, and the brush retainment member is configured to retain at least one brush.

An apparatus for use with a dynamoelectric machine includes a main body configured for attachment to a brush holder. A proximity sensor is on the main body, and the proximity sensor is configured for detecting the presence of a brush located at least partially inside the brush holder. The apparatus receives power from a battery located inside the apparatus, and transmits a wireless signal. The wireless signal is transformable into an indication of a remaining life of the brush. The apparatus is configured to be fully operational when the dynamoelectric machine is neither energized nor in operation, as the apparatus receives power from the battery.

A brush holder system includes a stationary support member having at least one groove, and a fork electrical connector. The brush retainment member has at least one rail configured to slide along the at least one groove, and a knife electrical connector configured to mate with the fork electrical connector. The stationary support member is configured for electrical connection to a collector mount and the brush retainment member is configured to retain at least one brush.

Various embodiments include a brush holder apparatus. In one embodiment, a brush holder apparatus for receiving a brush includes: a first support member; a box member affixed to the first support member; and a cam member operably connected to the first support member, the cam member configured to retain the brush against an inner surface of the box member.

Brush holder apparatus

An apparatus, brush holder and system are provided. The apparatus includes a main body configured for attachment to a brush holder, and a proximity sensor on the main body. The proximity sensor is configured for detecting the presence of a brush located at least partially inside the brush holder. The apparatus is configured to transmit a wireless signal to a remote location, and the wireless signal is transformable into an indication of a remaining life of the brush.

A brush holder apparatus is disclosed. In one embodiment, the brush holder apparatus includes: a first support member; a second support member affixed to the first support member; a brush retainment member affixed to the first support member and extending substantially parallel with the second support member; and a cam member operably connected to the second support member, the cam member configured to retain a brush against the brush retainment member.

A system is disclosed for cooling superconducting devices. The system includes a cryogen cooling system configured to be coupled to the superconducting device and to supply cryogen to the device. The system also includes a cryogen storage system configured to supply cryogen to the device. The system further includes flow control valving configured to selectively isolate the cryogen cooling system from the device, thereby directing a flow of cryogen to the device from the cryogen storage system.

A brush wear detector system for a dynamoelectric machine is provided. The brush wear detector system includes a brush holder, and at least one brush located within the brush holder. At least one spring is in contact with the brush and the spring operates to force the brush against an electrically conductive member of the dynamoelectric machine. A wireless sensor is configured to detect when a predetermined amount of wear has occurred to the at least one brush, and is also configured to identify the brush having the predetermined amount of wear. The wireless sensor is attached to the at least one brush.

An apparatus for holding a brush in contact with a moving conductive surface, the apparatus includes: a rotatable member disposed adjacent to the brush; and a spring coupled to the brush and to the member and configured to bias the brush towards the moving conductive surface; wherein the rotatable member in a first position makes contact with the brush to secure the brush from movement and in a second position releases the brush from the contact to allow the spring to hold the brush in contact with the moving conductive surface.

A system and method for cooling a superconductive rotor coil. The system comprises a rotatable shaft coupled to the superconductive rotor coil. The rotatable shaft may comprise an axial passageway extending through the rotatable shaft and a first passageway extending through a wall of the rotatable shaft to the axial passageway. The axial passageway and the first passageway are operable to convey a cryogenic fluid to the superconductive rotor coil through the wall of the rotatable shaft. A cryogenic transfer coupling may be provided to supply cryogenic fluid to the first passageway.
