A blow tube arrangement and method for controlling the flow of granular mold material to the cavity of a mold or core making machine, in which one or more transverse openings are formed in the tip of the blow tube, which allow flow into the cavity when the tip is inserted into the cavity but which are covered as the tip is withdrawn. A spring urged covering sleeve receives the tip as it is withdrawn from the mold pattern structure to maintain closure of the tip openings.

Blow tube arrangement for core and mold making machinery

An automatic method for producing molds using chemically bonded sands which consists of a molding machine adapted to produce either honeycomb (horizontally parted) or controlled contour (vertically parted) mold elements. The molding machine is provided with a venturi-type blow head having dual blow valves and an integral air chamber. Carriage means are provided to selectively move a sand magazine and catalyst manifold between their respective fill and work stations on the molding machine. A hydraulically actuated mold receiver, trunnion rollover and shuttle car means are provided to selectively receive the completed molds from the molding machine and transport them to associated mold finishing and closing means. A hydraulically actuated pattern clamp table is provided with an enclosed pattern and stripper pin stool having a separate hydraulically actuated stripper pin plate. The enclosed pattern and stripper pin stool is an integral catalyst exhaust manifold. A mold squeeze method is provided to selectively permit compression of the sand mold prior to the gassing of the chemically bonded sand mold.

Automatic method for producing molds using chemically bonded sands

A mold apparatus and method for minimizing the amount of chemically bonded molding sand needed to form a block mold which consists of a flask mounted upon a pattern plate and a sand minimizer blow plate which is selectively movable into engagement with the upper edge surface of the flask mounted upon the pattern plate so as to form a mold cavity therewith into which the chemically bonded molding sand is blown so as to form the sand mold. The sand minimizer blow plate is provided with pocket forming finger extensions which extend downwardly into the mold cavity so as to form block sand minimizer pocket cavities in the completed sand mold.

Blow plate structure and mold formed thereby

A cylindrical sand reclaimer drum for removing spent bonding contaminants and refuse from chemically bonded foundry molding sand and the like. The cylindrical drum is rotatably mounted along its longitudinal axis and is supported in a substantially horizontal inclined position along its longitudinal axis. The cylindrical drum has an intake opening at the elevated end thereof to receive the contaminated sand and process it through a plurality of internal compartments containing spherical or cube shaped abrasion media. The compartments are formed by a plurality of spaced-apart circular divider panels mounted on the central spindle or shaft of the cylindrical drum and which are perpendicular to the longitudinal axis thereof and are axially adjustable therealong. A plurality of spaced-apart openings are provided along the circumferential edge of each of the divider panels. Each opening is provided with a selectively adjustable gate so that the size of the opening can be adjusted as desired so that the size of the openings in each succeeding divider panel is smaller than those in the preceding divider panel. Thus, each divider panel removes refuse of a particular size from the sand as it passes therethrough. The lowermost final compartment has screen panels provided in the circumferential wall thereof which form the discharge opening for the clean reclaimed sand. The lower end wall of the cylindrical drum is provided with discharge openings through which the contaminants and refuse are discarded. Each compartment is provided with an access panel in the wall of the cylindrical drum so that spherical or cube shaped abrasion media can be selectively added or removed therefrom. Motor drive means are provided in association with the cylindrical sand reclaimer drum so as to rotate the drum so as to cause the contaminated sand to advance therethrough. Cyclone air removal suction means are provided in association with the sand reclaimer drum which are adapted to remove free bonding materials such as porous burnt resin particles which have been abraded from the sand during passage of the contaminated sand mass through the rotary sand reclaimer.
