A screen for intake of fluid. The screen includes parallel and spaced rods, filtration material, a fitting, and structural members. The rods may be distributed in a cylindrical configuration. The filtration material, which can be spirally wrapped wire, is disposed around the rods to define an interior volume. The fitting is disposed at an end of the rods and adjacent to the filtration material. Each structural member, which can be elongated bars, is interposed between adjacent rods. The structural members are welded to the adjacent rods, and the adjacent rods and the structural members are welded to the fitting to increase the effective weld area, the tensile strength of the connection, and potentially the overall strength of the screen. The screen may be used for a variety of fluids and installations, and is particularly suited to use in water wells.

Fluid intake screen

A screen for intake of fluid. The screen includes parallel and spaced rods, filtration material, a fitting, and structural members. The rods may be distributed in a cylindrical configuration. The filtration material, in some embodiments spirally wrapped wire, is disposed around the rods to define an interior volume. The fitting is disposed at an end of the rods and adjacent to the filtration material. Each structural member, which in some embodiments are elongated bars, is interposed between adjacent rods. The structural members are welded to the adjacent rods, and the adjacent rods and the structural members are welded to the fitting to increase the effective weld area, the tensile strength of the connection, and potentially the overall strength of the screen. The screen may be used for a variety of fluids and installations, and is particularly suited to use in water wells.

Apparatus and method for surgical repair of a detached retina includes an array of insulated electrodes that can be positioned adjacent the rear of an eye near the detachment site for selective excitation of pairs of the electrodes to selectively develop electrostatic attractive force on the retina that is detached from the rear of the eye. The array of electrodes may be selectively deployed and retrieved from the distal end of the cannula which can be positioned near the detachment site to facilitate orientation and control of the electrostatic force. Plural electrodes in multiple sets may be selectively activated in order to reposition of the electrostatic force without substantially altering the position of the array near the rear of the eye. A controllable power supply may include manual and foot-actuated controls for switching multiple sets of electrodes and altering the magnitude of the electrostatic force developed at the operational site. Cryopexy or photocoagulation or diathermy techniques may be utilized to scarify the attachment of the retina to the rear wall of the eye once the detached retina is repositioned against the rear wall of the eye by the attractive electrostatic force exerted on the retina.

Ocular repair system and apparatus

An apparatus and process are provided for the production of plywood. The apparatus is adapted to form plywood panels without prior patching of defects in the veneer sheets used to form the panel. The formed panel then is electro-optically scanned to identify and locate defects. The sensed defect data is stored in a control unit which in turn directs a defect removal apparatus and a patcher to appropriate locations for removing and patching the defects.
