Some embodiments are directed to a dissection tool for mechanical removal of biological material from a tissue sample on a planar substrate, such a glass slide including a platform for supporting the glass slide and a positioning system configured to move the dissection tool and platform relative to each other and control their relative positions. The dissection tool has a longitudinal axis and is arranged at an oblique angle relative to the platform and a thin-walled gouging head that has a base portion. The gouging head includes opposing side portions which extend from the base portion in a direction away from the glass slide and which at least partly enclose a cavity within the gouging head for receiving biological material that is dissected when relative movement between the platform and the dissection tool causes a front face of the gouging head to gouge a track though the tissue sample.

A device for generating short-wavelength electromagnetic radiation based on a gas discharge plasma calls for suppressing droplet formation of liquid coating material that is applied to disk electrodes rotated at high rotational frequencies and ensuring a uniform layer thickness. The device has two rotating disk electrodes, each having two lateral surfaces and a circumferential surface, provided with a reservoir with liquid coating material and a wiper for removing excess coating material. The wiper, which has a U-shaped form comprising two legs parallel to the lateral surfaces of the disk electrode and a crosspiece transversely over the circumferential surface, is at least axially movably supported and has impingement elements at the legs so that it is automatically axially adjustable by means of the coating material which is transported on the lateral surfaces and pressed into the gap during the rotation of the disk electrode.

A positioning assembly is provided with an endless loop conveyor belt for transporting an object and a first and second roller () arranged inside the endless loop. A first mounting part connected to a first end of the first roller () and a second mounting part connected to a second end of the first roller () are independently movable in a length direction of the conveyor with respect to the frame (). An actuator system is provided which includes a first lateral actuator () arranged to move at least a part of the first roller () in a direction parallel to the rotational axes () of the first roller (). The first roller () is longitudinally divided into at least two longitudinal segments. The first lateral actuator () moves at least one of the longitudinal segments parallel to the rotational axis () of the first roller ().

In a digital printer the elements involved directly in the print process, which are located on a shuttle assembly are mounted upon a metrological frame which is isolated from the base frame by vibration dampers. Because the elements of the shuttle drive systems, such as a belt drive system having a motor and pulleys, are mounted upon the base frame, the drive and reaction forces from the motor drive systems are led to the base frame while the shuttles assembly is guided by the force-free, vibration free metrological frame. This allows for higher accuracy during printing as the metrological frame serves as a vibration free reference element.

A digital printer includes a digital printing unit for digital printing an image onto a printing substrate during relative movement between a print head and the printing substrate, and a printing table for holding the printing substrate during the digital printing. The printing table is firmly fixed to the digital printing unit during the digital printing of the image onto the printing substrate and is released from the digital printing unit prior to and after the digital printing of the image onto the printing substrate. The printing table may be moved between a printing position, in which it is firmly fixed to the digital printing unit, and a printing substrate feeding position, in which it supports feeding and removing of the printing substrate from the printing table.

A printhead positioning system is provided wherein the shuttle assembly is split up in a printing shuttle, having a high accuracy positioning capability and a utility shuttle needing only a low accuracy positioning system. Due to this split-up the mass of components which have to be positioned accurately is greatly reduced and therefore making it easier to position the lighter load accurately and allowing for use of cheaper drive systems while maintaining the high accuracy in printing.

A print head mounting assembly and a method of mounting and positioning a print head on a print head carriage framework suitable for mounting in a printing system includes a print head positioning device for receiving a print head, and a print head mounting tile having a mounting surface for mounting the print head positioning device. The print head mounting tile is adjustably mounted on the print head carriage framework such that it provides a mounting surface for the print head positioning device that is level with a reference printing surface, when the print head carriage framework is mounted in the printing system. The print head positioning device is adjustably mounted on the print head mounting tile such that the print head, being received in the print head positioning device, is accurately positioned on the mounting surface of the print head mounting tile.
