There are provided aromatic conversion reactions for preparation of dialkylbenzenes, such as xylene and ethyltoluene, of enhanced para isomer content with a zeolitic catalyst composition of improved shape selectivity. The catalysts comprise certain zeolites which have been calcined at a high temperature of at least 649.degree. C. (i.e., 1200.degree. F.). These zeolites have a silica/alumina ratio of at least about 12 and a constraint index within the approximate range of 1 to 12. Examples of such zeolites include ZSM-5 and ZSM-11.

Zeolitic catalyst composition of improved shape selectivity

A process for increasing the volume of feed throughput to the FCC by decreasing coke make under catalytic cracking conditions including a temperature of 950.degree. F. to about 1150.degree. F., a catalyst to feed ratio of 3:1 to 10:1 and a catalyst contact time of from about 1 to about 20 seconds in the presence of catalyst comprising framework silicon enriched ZSM-20.

A surface-inactive shape selective metallosilicate catalyst, useful for the conversion of lower molecular weight olefins to liquid hydrocarbons such as gasoline, distillate, and high viscosity lube oils, is prepared by forming a silica shell on a medium pore metallosilicate core by crystallizing silica in the presence of fluoride ion onto the surface of the core. A novel catalyst composition is provided comprising an inner core portion and an outer portion disposed as a porous shell around the inner portion, wherein the inner portion consists essentially of metallosilicate zeolite having a medium pore structure, such as ZSM-5 or ZSM-23, and the outer portion comprising a fluoride-containing crystalline shell consisting essentially of silica substantially free of acid sites and having substantially the same crystalline structure as the inner core portion.

Zeolite catalyst composition and synthesis method

A continuous process is described for manufacturing a wide variety of zeolites having selected crystal sizes and other desired characteristics. Selected raw materials are fed to a precursor tank of relatively large capacity, wherein the resultant zeolite precursor slurry is held at temperatures of up to 180.degree. F. for 4-16 hours, with high shear agitation, as an induction period. The slurry is sent to a plurality of crystallization tanks before it possesses a total solids content exceeding 10% by weight and a crystalline content exceeding 15% by weight of the total solids content. The crystallization tanks are preferably operated in two stages. The first crystallizing stage is held at a temperature of 180.degree.-250.degree. F. for 2-72 hours. The second crystallizing stage is held at a temperature greater than 250.degree. F. for 2-16 hours.

A process for the production of lubricant oil range hydrocarbon having increased viscosity index by oligomerization of lower olefins over medium pore shape selective acid zeolite catalyst. The preferred oligomerization process is conducted using 50 ppm to 5 weight percent of water vapor as cofeed, based on olefin and acid ZSM-5 zeolite.

Uniform droplets of a bead-forming liquid are produced by positioning the end of a capillary tube in the throat of a venturi. An immiscible fluid flowing through the venturi detaches the droplets from the end of the capillary tube to produce uniform, spherical droplets which harden into spheroidal beads which have a uniform size.

A process for catalytically cracking a hydrocarbon feed in a reaction zone under catalytic cracking conditions in the absence of added hydrogen with a catalyst comprising a conventional cracking catalyst. The improvement comprises adding to the conventional cracking catalyst a thermally treated zeolite having a mole ratio of SiO.sub.2 :Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 of about 10:1 to 100:1 and a constraint index of about 1 to 12. Thermal treatment reduces the additive zeolite's alpha activity to about 1 to 10 prior to use.

A process for increasing gasoline octane number and/or total gasoline yield in catalytic cracking units by the addition of a very small amount of finely divided shape selective additive promoter, which additive promoter is not intimately combined with a substantial amount of another solid prior to contact with the cracking catalyst. The additive promoter is a zeolite characterized by a silica to alumina mole ratio greater than about 500 and a constraint index within the approximate range of 1 to 12.

Promotion of cracking catalyst octane yield performance

An improved process for the production of high viscosity lubricating oils obtained by reacting olefins over ZSM-5 type zeolites at elevated temperatures and pressures in order to obtain a liquid product and thereafter recovering a lube oil fraction from said liquid product is disclosed. The improvement resides in the use of large crystal ZSM-5 which has been found to enhance the viscosity index of lubes produced from olefins.
