The invention describes the unexpected characteristics of blends, including crosslinked reaction products of elastomeric silicone polymers with various polyurethanes and their applications in personal care products.

Silicone polyurethane blends

The instant invention relates to novel surfactant-free, multiphase sunscreen compositions that provide protection from the sun, have a unique visual appeal, and provide skin conditioning and moisturization. In a two-phase embodiment of the instant invention, the compositions are comprised of (1) a first layer comprising a high-density ester and sunscreen, and (2) a second aqueous layer, which is usually the top layer. In a three-phase embodiment of the instant invention, the compositions are comprised of (1) a first layer comprising a high-density ester and and sunscreen, (2) a second aqueous layer, and (3) a third oily layer. The high-density ester layer usually has a specific gravity that is greater than that of the aqueous layer and the aqueous layer usually has a specific gravity that is greater than the oily layer. In preferred embodiments, each phase is substantially clear and has a volume approximately equal to that of the other phase(s). The phases disperse upon mixing and separate over time after mixing. The phases may be colored differently to enhance visual appeal. In some embodiments, emulsified boundary layer(s) form between the phases and constitute third or fourth phases.

Multiphase sunscreen compositions

The present invention relates to a composition and use of polymeric urethane esters quats as an active ingredient for skin and hair contacting personal care compositions and products related thereto. These compositions are generally produced by the reaction of a trialkanolamine with a hydroxy fatty acid to produce a trialkanolamine fatty acid ester, which is then polymerized with a diisocyanate and in preferred embodiments, further reacted with a quaternizing agent to produce preferred quaternized compositions according to the present invention.

Polymeric urethane ester quats and their use in personal care compositions

The present invention is directed to compositions comprising polymeric tertiary amines of urethane esters and salts thereof. The compositions are generally derived from linear or branched chain compounds of synthetic or natural origin, preferably from trialkalnolamines that have been esterified with organic acids including long chain fatty acids and reacted with diisocyanate compounds to form urethane adducts. These adducts are in turn polymerized with organic acids to form polymeric urethane ester tertiary amine salts. The compositions of the present invention may be incorporated into personal care formulations such as cosmetics, toiletries and shampoos and into detergents to improve or modify at least two of the characteristics of such formulations.

The present invention relates to a composition and use of polymeric urethane ester quats as an active ingredient for skin and hair contacting personal care compositions and products related thereto. These compositions are generally produced by the reaction of a trialkanolamine with a hydroxy fatty acid to produce a trialkanolamine fatty acid ester, which is then polymerized with a diisocyanate and in preferred embodiments, further reacted with a quaternizing agent, to produce preferred quaternized compositions according to the present invention.

The invention provides a hair conditioning formulation useful in repairing split ends comprising: (a) an amphoteric or cationic guar gum; and (b) a Necon fatty dialkyl amine salt, wherein the formulation contains natural or synthetic gums.

The present invention is directed to monomeric and polymeric compositions based upon polymeric urethane surfactants which are derived from linear, branched, or aromatic compounds of synthetic or natural origin, preferably from tertiary amines and diisocyanate compounds. The urethane polymers of the present invention may be in the form of betaines, quaternium salts, tertiary amine salts or N-oxides. The present invention also relates to chemical compositions comprising the neutralization product of at least one amine neutralization compound (preferably, a diamine) and a carboxylic acid (preferably, a dicarboxylic acid), said amine neutralization compound comprising about 1% to about 100% by weight (of the total amount of amine neutralization containing compound) of a first amine compound and 0% to about 99% by weight of a second amine compound different from said first amine compound, said first amine compound being a polyamine containing at least one tertiary amine group and at least one quaternary amine group, said tertiary amine group of said first amine reacting with said carboxylic acid group to produce a tertiary ammonium carboxylate salt, said second amine compound containing at least one primary, secondary or tertiary amine group with the proviso that when said second amine contains only primary and/or secondary amine groups, the amount of said second amine in said amine neutralization compound is no greater than about 20% (preferably, no greater than about 10%) by weight and said carboxylic acid comprises at least about 50% by weight (more preferably at least about 75% by weight, even more preferably about 90% by weight and even more preferably about 100% by weight of a polycarboxylic acid, more preferably a dicarboxylic acid.
