A riding toy mechanism which provides both lateral and vertical reciprocating motion in which the amplitude of the vertical reciporcating motion is not determined by the amplitude of the lateral reciprocating motion. The mechanism includes a slide member (20) slidably mounted on the mechanism, a pivot member (24) pivotably mounted on the mechanism, and dual reciprocating means (28) for imparting harmonic lateral reciprocating motion to slide member (20) and independent vertical pivoting motion to pivot member (24). Dual reciprocating means (28) may include a cam (30) mounted to pivot member (24), a drive gear (31) for rotating the cam (30), and a connecting rod (32) pivotably and eccentrically attached at one end to one of the cam (30) and the drive gear (31) and at the other end and to mooring means (17). The mechanism includes cam follower means (40) upon which cam (30) rests. Rotation of cam (30) thus imparts harmonic lateral reciprocating motion to slide member (20) and independent vertical pivoting motion to pivot member (24). In another embodiment, alternate slide member (58) is slidably mounted on alternate pivot member (60), which is pivotably mounted to a stationary support member (12).

An extrusion apparatus includes a rotary shell having plural circumferential rows of extrusion orifices and a stationary inner member, forming in cooperation with the shell recesses communicating with the orifices, and metering pump for supplying icing to individual passageways formed in the stationary member, so that precisely metered amounts of icing are extruded through the extrusion orifices, the icing then being cut off by a stationary member which located at a bottom portion of the rotary shell for deposit onto biscuits traveling upon a conveyor belt.

Dough pieces are produced in high volume by a plurality of dual extruders spaced across a conveyor and each having a pair of extrusion nozzles aligned in the direction of conveyor travel. A cut-off mechanism severs the dough extrusions to deposit dough pieces on the conveyor. The speed of the conveyor is related to the speed of the cut-off mechanism so that the dough pieces produced by each extruder form a single uniformly spaced line. The extruders are fed from a common supply through individual inlets and means are provided to balance the flow through the nozzles.

Dough pieces for a baked product having an inner portion enveloped by a dissimilar outer portion are disclosed which are formed by continuously extruding two dissimilar materials to form an extrudate rope having a core of one material and an outer tube of the other material, depositing the extrudate rope on a continuously moving conveyor, and dividing the extrudate rope upon the conveyor by displacing the core material away from spaced transverse zones, sealing the outer tube to itself along the zones and severing the sealed tube.

High volume dough piece production apparatus

The present invention is a process for making icing utilizing a modified chocolate mixing machine. An icing slurry made of a mixture of fat and sugar is prepared and pumped into the mixing machine. The mixing machine has a plurality of independently controlled temperature zones. The icing slurry is mixed and propelled through these temperature zones by a plurality of blades attached to a rotor. The mixing machine has cooling plates between the blades. The cooling plates congeal the icing as it is being mixed. The icing is also aerated during this process. This process produces an icing having small beta prime fat crystals which allow the icing to 'set-up' rapidly. This invention also includes the product of the process.

Method to make icing using a controlled multi-zone cooling and mixing

A flat sheet comprising a layer of fat sandwiched between two layers of dough is produced using a coextrusion die having two slot-like orifices. In order to avoid distortion of the sheet due to the dough leaving the center portion of the outer slot-like orifice more quickly than the end portions thereof, multiple augers or other drive means are used and the drive means which drive the dough through the end portions of the orifice operate more quickly than those which drive the dough through the center portion of the orifice. The coextruded sheet may be laminated, rolled and cut to form multi-layered bakery products.

Round dough pieces having an inner portion enveloped by a dissimilar outer portion are formed without generating waste by continuously extruding two dissimilar materials to form an extrudate rope having a core of one material and an outer tube of the other material, depositing the extrudate rope on a continuously moving conveyor, pinching the extrudate rope at predetermined intervals to form spaced sections of reduced width, and separating the extrudate rope into individual dough pieces at said reduced width sections.

A waffle creme sandwich sawing machine having first and second saw mechanisms, each including a row of vertical reciprocating blades. The saw mechanisms are spaced from each other and positioned so their cut lines are at right angles. A pusher mechanism moves a stack of waffle creme sandwich sheets through the first saw mechanism and onto a longitudinally slotted conveyor which moves through said second saw mechanism.

Apparatus for grouping articles in stacks of a predetermined number in which a wheel having serrated teeth picks off articles from the base of an infeed chute and places them on edge on a pair of inclined rails. The articles are held to the wheel by vacuum and are separated from the wheel by wedge members positioned adjacent the rails. A stack of articles builds on the rails and is slid into a conveyor bucket. After each predetermined number of articles is removed from the chute, a lever is actuated to hold the column of articles in the chute out of contact with the teeth to allow for advancement of the bucket conveyor.

A conveyor system for grouping columns of articles into spaced group each containing a predetermined number of articles. The columns of articles are fed onto a conveyor having an extendable noser arrangement at the output end which is positioned over the input end of a second conveyor. The noser arrangement is extended to interrupt the flow of articles from the first conveyor to the second conveyor and provide a space on the second conveyor between successive groups of articles. The articles are transferred to the second conveyor as the noser arrangement retracts. A photo-electric device counts the articles as they are transferred and actuates the noser extending mechanism when the predetermined count is reached.

Folded cartons are individually removed from a storage magazine by a vacuum head having a large area surface in which are formed plural vacuum ports having a large combined area. The vacuum ports are connected to a low pressure, high volume vacuum exhauster. The head carries the carton to a point over a conveyor. On each side of the conveyor, a pair of suction cups are carried by an assembly mounted for combined vertical and horizontal movement. The suction cups are connected to a high pressure, low volume vacuum pump. They are moved upwardly to grip a panel on the lower surface of the folded carton and moved downwardly to open the carton and draw it into a bucket on the conveyor.

The liners are formed from flat corrugated paper sheets that are stored on edge in a magazine. A vacuum picker transfers single sheets to a conveyor and they are creased on the upper surface by disc blades. The creased sheets are fed between narrow upper and lower conveyor belts and drawn through plow elements which fold the sheets to form liners. The formed liners are carried by gripping heads of an overhead chain conveyor to a constantly moving bucket conveyor. The axis of the chain conveyor is set at an acute angle to the axis of the bucket conveyor and the gripping heads are rotated by cam elements to align the liners with the conveyor buckets.
