A fitting assembly for maintaining a leak free seal connection with an associated fluid conduit during and after exposure to extreme heat is provided. The fitting assembly includes a coupling body including an inside surface defining a bore for receiving the associated fluid conduit. The coupling body is made of a first corrosion resistant material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion. The at least one ring is made of a complementary second corrosion resistant material having a second larger coefficient of thermal expansion such that the second material will expand at a greater rate that the first material during heating to a first temperature generally exceeding annealing temperatures of both the first material and the second material. The second material contracts at a greater rate that the first material during subsequent cooling to a second temperature below the annealing temperatures thereby restoring compressive and tensile stresses in the associated fluid conduit and the fitting assembly for ensuring that the fitting assembly maintains a leak free seal connection with the associated fluid conduit.

Fitting with complementary fitting materials

An installation tool assembly for advancing a fitting's swage ring onto a fitting's connector body while a conduit is received in the connector body to mechanically and sealingly connect the fitting to the conduit includes a body defining at least two spaced apart piston chambers, a fixed jaw connected to the body and adapted to engage one of the connector body or the swage ring, and a movable jaw connected to the body and movable relative to the fixed jaw. The movable jaw is adapted to engage the other of the connector body or the swage ring. Pistons are disposed in the at least two spaced piston chambers. The pistons and the movable jaw are configured such that movement of the pistons in a first direction moves the movable jaw toward the fixed jaw thereby moving the swage ring axially onto the connector body to mechanically and sealingly connect the connector body to the conduit received therein when the fixed and movable jaws are engaged to the connector body and swage ring. A crossover assembly follows the contours of the body and fluidly connects the at least two spaced apart piston chambers. The crossover assembly is fluidly connectable to a hydraulic pressure source for delivering hydraulic fluid to the at least two spaced apart piston chambers to move the pistons in the first direction.

Installation tool assembly

A fitting for making connections with a pipe includes a coupling body having an inside surface defining a bore for receiving a pipe. A ring is fitted over the coupling body for sealing and mechanically connecting the coupling body to the pipe. An axisymmetrical main seal is formed on the inside surface of the coupling body that seals and connects to the pipe when the ring is installed on the coupling body. An axisymmetrical inboard seal is formed on the inside surface of the coupling body axially spaced from the main seal that seals and connects to the pipe when the ring is installed on the coupling body. At least one of the coupling body and the ring is configured so that the inboard seal seals and connects after the main seal seals and connects to the pipe. An axisymmetrical outboard seal is formed on the inside surface of the coupling body axially spaced from the main seal that connects to the pipe when the ring is installed on the coupling body. At least one of the coupling body and the ring is further configured so that the outboard seal seals and mechanically connects after the inboard seal seals and connects to the pipe. At least one of the coupling body and the ring is still further configured to apply a restoring load to the main seal to further seal and mechanically connect the main seal to the pipe after the outboard seal seals and connects to the pipe.

Fitting with sequential sealing action

A fitting for a fluid conduit includes a coupling body having an inside surface for engaging an outside surface of a fluid conduit and a shoulder portion for limiting axial insertion of the fluid conduit into the coupling body. At least one seal is formed on the inside surface of the coupling body. The at least one seal includes a proximal seal adjacent the shoulder portion. A ring is annularly disposed on the coupling body urging the at least one seal into the fluid conduit to seal and mechanically connect the coupling body to the fluid conduit.

Fitting having low volume crevice

A handheld hydraulic assembly tool for advancing a fitting's swage ring onto a fitting's connecting body while a conduit is received in the connector body to mechanically and sealingly connect the fitting to the conduit includes a clamping assembly defining a piston chamber fluidly connected to a pump chamber. The clamping assembly has a fixed jaw adapted to engage one of the connector body and the swage ring and a moveable jaw adapted to engage the other of the connector body and the swage ring. A piston is disposed in the piston chamber. The piston and the moveable jaw are configured such that movement of the piston in a first direction moves the moveable jaw toward the fixed jaw thereby moving the swage ring axially onto the connector body to mechanically and sealingly connect the connector body to the conduit received therein when the jaws are engaged to the connector body and the swage ring. A pump body defines the pump chamber and is connected to the clamping assembly. A fluid reservoir is fluidly connected to the pump chamber. A manually-operated pump piston is disposed in the pump chamber for drawing hydraulic fluid from the fluid reservoir and forcing the drawn hydraulic fluid into the piston chamber to move the piston in the first direction.

A fitting for a fluid pressure conduit. The fitting includes a coupling body having a substantially axisymmetrical inside surface for engaging an outside surface of the fluid pressure conduit. The inside surface has at least one substantially axisymmetrical seal formed as at least one axisymmetrical ridge on the inside surface of the coupling body. There is at least one seal land on an outside surface of the coupling body adjacent the substantially axisymmetrical seal(s). There are a plurality of anti-torsion ridges on the inside surface of the coupling body, the anti-torsion ridges having friction surfaces for resisting torsion between the fitting and the fluid pressure conduit. Furthermore, there is at least one torsion land formed on the outside surface of the coupling body adjacent the torsion ridges. The fitting also includes a ring for fitting over the coupling body, the ring being for engaging the seal land(s) to force the seal(s) into engagement with the outside surface of the fluid conduit, the ring further being for engaging the torsion land(s) to force the plurality of anti-torsion ridges into engagement with the fluid pressure conduit.

A hydraulic assembly system is described. The system includes a hydraulic assembly tool connected by a hydraulic connection to a hydraulic pressure source which supplies a pressurized hydraulic fluid to the tool. The system includes a switch mounted on the hydraulic assembly tool and one or more signal connections between the switch and the hydraulic pressure source whereby activation of the switch causes the hydraulic pressure source to supply the pressurized hydraulic fluid to activate the hydraulic assembly tool.

Remote actuation of installation tooling pump

The present invention provides a positive gapping device for socket welded fittings. The positive gapping device comprises a socket fitting having a recessed area on at least one end for receiving a pipe section that is engageable with the recessed area of the socket fitting. It further includes a gapping means disposed on one of a surface of the recessed area of the socket fitting facing an end of such pipe section and an end of such pipe section for engagement with such socket fitting. The gapping means providing a space between the socket fitting and such pipe section for reducing residual stresses that result from a welding operation.

Self gapping socket weld fittings

Hydraulic assembly tool having a tool fixed portion having a proximal end and a distal end. The tool fixed portion includes a hydraulic cylinder having a fluid pressure port at the proximal end of the tool fixed portion. The fluid pressure port is for receiving a fluid having a controllable pressure. The tool fixed portion includes a fixed jaw. The tool also has a moveable portion including a moveable jaw and a piston disposed in the hydraulic cylinder, the piston receiving a hydraulic force from the pressurized fluid. There is a compression spring engaging the tool fixed portion and the tool moveable portion, the compression spring urging the tool moveable portion including the moveable jaw in a direction opposite the direction of the hydraulic force. Increasing the pressure of the fluid causes the moveable jaw to move in the direction of the hydraulic force, and decreasing the pressure of the fluid permits the spring to move the tool moveable portion including the moveable jaw in a direction opposite the direction of the hydraulic force.

Compact installation tool

The present invention provides an apparatus for securing a predetermined fitting to a mating surface. Such apparatus comprises a flange member having a predetermined profile and a swivel member connected to the flange member and having a well defined flange to swivel interface wherein the defined flange to swivel interface is conical with respect to an axis through the centerline of the apparatus.

Conical flange interface for railway applications

A valve having a housing and a valve member located in the housing for controlling the flow of a fluid or fluid pressure directed through the housing. The valve further includes a removable valve seat located in the housing and against which the valve member engages and disengages in the fluid or fluid pressure control process. A sealing member is located between an outer surface of such valve seat and an inner surface of the housing of the valve. The removable valve seat being made of a durable molded plastic material.
