The present invention provides inexpensive, safe and reliable methods for improving the morphology, tone, texture and/or appearance of the skin and/or hair of a mammal, preferably without using one or more surfactants (or other chemicals) that can strip away, or otherwise remove, one or more protective lipids from the skin and/or hair. These methods comprise topically applying to the skin and/or hair at least three applications on a regular basis of a composition in an effective amount including: (a) a Meadowlactone in an amount that is effective for enhancing the morphology, tone, texture and/or appearance of the skin and/or hair, and having the chemical structure set forth herein; and (b) a cosmetically acceptable base in an amount that is effective for acting as a carrier vehicle for the Meadowlactone.

Methods for enhancing the morphology, tone, texture and/or appearance of skin or hair using a meadowlactone

1-(3-methoxybenzyl)-3-substituted thiourea antioxidant compounds and improved lipids compositions which are supplemented with amounts of such antioxidant compounds effective for augmenting oxidative stability of the base lipid are provided. Also provided are methods for enhancing the oxidative stability of a lipid comprising supplementing a base lipid in need of enhanced oxidative stability with at least one 1-(3-methoxybenzyl)-3-substituted thiourea compound of the present invention.

The present invention relates to a composition, process for preparation and use of a novel hair dyeing composition in the personal care industry. The composition when used in the dyeing process for hair results in a permanent coloration to the hair and improves manageability of the hair and minimizes damage from dyeing process. The use of a cationic compound based upon meadowfoam seed oil provides unexpected penetration of the hair by the dye, unexpected oxidative stability in the dye compositions, and unexpected color deposition to the hair.

3-Methoxybenzyl thiourea derivatives and improved lipid compositions containing same

The invention relates to a series of novel silicone fatty esters, specifically dimethicone copolyol erucate esters. This class of compounds provides has a unique combination of properties including clarity and liquidity and oxidative stability and water solubility of the silicone ester per se, and the ability to provide outstanding softening and wet comb lubrication, as well as actually strengthening the hair. These properties are highly desirable in cosmetic products. The compounds of the present invention are prepared by reacting the hydroxyl group in a silicone polymer with erucic acid, or an oil high in erucic acid like crambe oil. The compounds of the present invention have more than 40% by weight of erucic groups in the molecule. The concentration of this key component has been found to be critical to performance.

A method is provided for inhibiting free radical degradation in the skin of a human or nonhuman animal comprising contacting the skin with a skin treatment composition having a concentration of a 1-(3-methoxybenzyl)-3-substituted thiourea compound effective for inhibiting free radical generation. Skin protecting compositions comprising a free radical inhibiting concentration of a 1-(3-methoxybenzyl)-3-substituted thiourea compound, and optionally a sunscreeen composition, are also provided.

The present invention relates to a series of &ldquo;reconstituted meadowfoam oils&rdquo;, used on skin for moisturizing and emmolient applications. The term reconstituted as used hereon refers to a process in which meadowfoam oil and one or more oils of natural origin are transesterified under conditions of high temperature and catalyst to make a &ldquo;reconstituted product&rdquo; having an altered alkyl distribution and consequently altered chemical and physical properties.
