Gaseous streams containing unsaturated hydrocarbons and carbonyl compounds are contacted with a catalyst comprising at least one metal of group 8, 1b, 2b, 4b, 6b and at least one element from group 1a and 2a to destroy the carbonyl compounds without substantial loss of unsaturated hydrocarbons.

Purification of unsaturated compounds

Gaseous streams containing carbonyl compounds have the carbonyl content reduced by contacting the gaseous streams with a catalyst of ZnS. Reactor effluent from an oxidative dehydrogenation reaction to produce butadiene-1,3, is contacted with ZnS to remove carbonyl compounds.

Carbonyl removal from gaseous streams using ZnS

Gaseous streams containing carbonyl compounds have the carbonyl content reduced by contacting the gaseous streams with a catalyst of calcium aluminate or calcium aluminate and Ca.sub.2 SiO.sub.4. Reactor effluent from an oxidative dehydrogenation reaction to produce butadiene-1,3 is contacted with calcium aluminate or calcium aluminate and Ca.sub.2 SiO.sub.4 catalyst to remove carbonyl compounds.

Oxidative dehydrogenation catalysts containing lithium, iron and oxygen, with or without aluminum or chromium, and containing the corresponding ferrite, give superior results and operate at generally lower temperatures than many other ferrite oxidative dehydrogenation catalysts.

Gaseous streams containing carbonyl compounds are reduced in carbonyl compounds by reacting a vapor phase with catalyst comprising as the major cation portion at least two metals of Periodic Table Groups 1b, 2b, 4b, 6b, 7b and 8. Reactor effluent from oxidative dehydrogenation reaction to produce butadiene-1,3 is reacted with iron oxide - copper chromite on AMC catalyst to remove carbonyl compounds.

Reactor effluent from oxidative dehydrogenation reaction to produce butadiene-1,3 is reacted with calcium oxide catalyst to remove carbonyl compounds.
