These interface pads with proportional valves have at least one inflatable member having a foam core with a cell structure that absorbs atmospheric air. The transmission of air into the foam core is controlled by a valve in said opening. Fasteners are used to affix this inflatable member in a location where it can serve as an interface pad between a living creature and another object. The valve used is a proportional valve adjustable to different pressure settings, where the different pressure settings allow air to escape from the valve until the set pressure is reached. In one preferred embodiment, there are two inflatable members adapted for placement adjacent the upper sides of a load-bearing animal. An important subcategory of this embodiment covers bareback riding pads, including bareback riding pads for use by handicapped persons. In other embodiments, at least one inflatable member is adapted to pad an interface between a human and an object. Where the object is a seat, the fasteners are adapted for affixing inflatable member(s) to a seat. Where the object is a prosthetic, the pad is adapted to pad the interface between human and prosthetic, and the fasteners are adapted for affixing inflatable member(s) in position with respect to the prosthetic.

Interface pads with proportional valves

These interface pads have a right and a left inflatable member with the volume of air in each of these inflatable members being independently adjustable. Each member is adapted to provide an interface between one side of a load-bearing animal and a load-supporting structure such as a saddle. Connecting means span the spinal area of the animal and link the members to one another in a manner that avoids the placement of any substantial compression on the animal's supraspinous ligament. Moreover, a gullet channel is maintained so as to allow appropriate ventilation in this area. The inflatable members are constructed of a foam core wholly surrounded by and bonded to a pair of thin skins or panels, forming a fluid tight envelope. A valve is disposed between the chamber formed by the envelope and the ambient environment. After allowing inflation of an air pad of this type and placing a load (such as the saddle and/or rider) thereon, the valve can be opened. In this situation, the air pad will conform to the contours and configuration of both saddle and animal until it reaches a point where the pressure exerted by foam and air remaining in the foam matches the exterior pressure placed on its various parts. The use of a proportional valve is preferred as this makes the process virtually automatic.

Interface pads

Multi-port valve assemblies with, typically, two-piece housings are disclosed. Particularly useful in connection with swimming pools and associated water pumps, the assemblies avoid reliance on an elongated handle to effect rotation of the internal structure of the valve. Instead, the assemblies utilize a knob&mdash;which users need not lift&mdash;coupled to a post in which an elongated slot is formed. Doing so avoids breakage problems associated with use of elongated handles while reducing wear of internal seals. Each valve assembly additionally may include a cam having non-semicircular, asymmetrically-shaped recesses into which followers attached to a shaft passing through the elongated slot are received.

A durable, economical, and aesthetically pleasing terminal enclosure (2) for housing standardized terminal blocks (50). The terminal enclosure (2) includes a base section (30) formed as an open-faced trough with integral perpendicular end panels (24, 34). The terminal enclosure (2) also has a pair of gull-wing doors (10, 20) which may be closed to cover the base section (30). The doors (10, 20) are formed with a curvature to provide a continuous arching cover over the base section (30), and a plurality of legs (12-1 . . . 5, 22-1 . . . 5) is angled downwardly and inwardly from each door for pivotal attachment to the underside of the base section (30). The combined curvature of the legs (12-1 . . . 5, 22-1 . . . 5) and the doors (10, 20) allows opening without a need for frontal clearance. In addition, the legs (12-1 . . . 5, 22-1 . . . 5) are pivoted to the base section (30) in such a way that they may be locked in the full-open position, thereby freeing both hands for servicing.

Arrangement for securing a door to an enclosure

An enclosure (10) for terminal blocks for connection of telephone service cables to others thereof or to a distribution cable (16) providing for mounting therewithin of different types of terminal block. A lid (12) is pivotable from a closed position to a first fully open position where it retains itself open, and may be further pivotable beyond the first open position to a second fully open position where it similarly retains itself open. At least two tab sections (80) of the lid's rear wall (40) have free ends (82) that abut the enclosure's rear wall when the lid is pivoted open. Corners (84, 85) of the tab free ends (82) compressively bear against the enclosure's rear wall and serve as detents to inhibit unintentional lid rotation out of either fully open position.

A power receptacle 10 includes a housing 12 having a cover plate 46 therefore and securable thereto, an associated pair of receptacle contacts 70 mounted within the housing 12, the contacts 70 each having pair of arms 74 having openings 78 therethrough to define a beam receiving passage 80 completely through the receptacle contacts 70, means for directing a beam of light through the beam receiving passage and including at least a light emitting component 58, and means for detecting a beam of light passing through the beam receiving passage at least including a light receiving component 60, at least one of the components 58, 60 being electrically connected ultimately to a microprocessor. Upon entry of complementary blades 84 of a plug of an electrically powered device into the receptacle contacts, the beam receiving passage 80 is blocked, thereby breaking transmission of light between the emitter 58 and receiver 60, which is ultimately detected by the microprocessor.

An enclosure (10) for terminal blocks for connection of telephone service cables (22,272,276,322,326) to others thereof or to a distribution cable (16) providing for mounting therewithin of different types of terminal blocks (200,250,300). Several ribs (86) extend across the bottom wall and upwardly to coplanar top edges (88) to support the various types of blocks as several projections (96,124) extend upwardly between at least two of the ribs to top edges (98,126) coplanar with the rib top edges (88) and include apertures (100,132) thereinto for receipt of fasteners for mounting of the terminal blocks (200,250). A ground plate (350) is also mountable in the enclosure atop rib top edges (88) in turn permitting mounting to the top surface thereof of certain terminal blocks (300) having ground contacts (310) requiring grounding. A lid (12) is pivotable to a stable open position.

An outlet (1) or communications cable (17), includes, an enclosure (2) defined by a base (3) and a cover (4), a cable receiving opening (8) in the base (3), multiple interchangeable plates (5) adapted for removable mounting along sides (23) of the enclosure (2), and each of the plates (5) being removable for replacement by one of the plates (5) having a connector receiving opening (6) adapted to receive a data connector (20) connected to a cable (17) received by the cable receiving opening (8).

An enclosure for terminal blocks for interconnecting conductors of multiconductor cables includes provision for two or more terminal block modules. A lid is pivotably hinged to a box-like base section, with the base section including front and rear walls extending upwardly from a floor, and side walls extending downwardly from a transverse section of the lid into the open regions between the front and rear walls of the base section when the lid is pivoted to its closed position. When the enclosure is mounted vertically the lid is pivotable to an open position overcentered to remain open unassisted. The side walls include ribs having projections which engage upper edges of ridges extending upwardly from side edges of the floor between the front and rear walls, thus camming the lower edges of the side walls inwardly tightly against outwardly facing surfaces of the ridges for sealing.
