A method controls the color in a printing press, which includes at least one printing station printing a respective color design. The method includes the procedures of determining a control factor to color model, printing a design on a web and acquiring color characteristics corresponding to the printed design on the web. The method further includes the procedures of determining the color quality of the printed color design and determining a required change to at least one control factor when a correction to the color characteristics of the printed design is required. The change to at least one control factor is determined by determining the at least one control factor with respective color related information, which results in a reference color characteristic, according to the control factor to color model. The method returns to the procedure of printing when a correction is not required.

System and method for controlling color characteristics of a printed image

A combined imaging and spectral measurement line-scan imaging sensor includes a plurality of pixel lines. Each pixel line includes a plurality of pixels. At least one of the pixel lines is an imaging line designated for acquiring at least one image of an object and other of the pixel lines are spectral measurement lines designated for acquiring a spectral measurement of light received from the object. Each imaging line is associated with a single respective spectral response within a spectral range. Each pixel in each spectral measurement line is associated with a respective spectral band. Each of at least three pixels in each of the spectral measurement lines is respectively associated with different respective pixel spectral bands. The different respective pixel spectral bands are non-identical to any one of the single spectral responses associated with each of the imaging spectral lines.

Combined spectral measurement and imaging sensor

A color measurement system laterally determines chromatic characteristics of a printed substrate. A measurement carriage includes a measurement head for laterally moving across the printed substrate and a measurement magnetic coupler slidably mounts onto a measurement rail positioned on a first side of the printed substrate. A backing carriage includes backing surface(s) and backing magnetic coupler(s). Each backing magnetic coupler is associated with a respective backing surface. Each backing magnetic coupler can be coupled with the measurement magnetic coupler for coupling the measurement carriage with the backing carriage. The backing carriage slidably mounts onto a backing rail positioned on a second opposite side of the printed substrate. The measurement carriage or backing carriage includes a motor for moving across a respective measurement rail or backing rail. Another measurement carriage and backing carriage move across another measurement rail and backing rail by coupling with the first measurement carriage and backing carriage.

Color measurement system including lateral moving measurment carriage

A conveying apparatus for conveying an object, the object having at least a non-opaque portion, including a light source, an optical detector and a backing measurement apparatus, the light source for illuminating the object, the optical detector for acquiring information at least relating to at least one chromatic characteristic of the non-opaque portion, the backing measurement apparatus including a backing material, a backing support and a plurality of rollers, the backing material exhibiting at least one of determined chromatic characteristics and determined optical characteristics, the backing support for supporting the backing material, the plurality of rollers for rolling the backing material over the backing support, wherein light emitted by the light source optically interacts with the backing material consistently through the non-opaque portion.
