A rupture disc device and method of assembly thereof are provided. The rupture disc device has a device body formed so that there are no leakage pathways to the radially outer surface thereof. The rupture disc is welded to the device body so that the weld joint therebetween is not relied upon to provide structural support, and instead strictly acts as a seal. In one form, the weld joint is formed with the weld beam directed axially transverse to thickness of the rupture disc to minimize unwanted variances in the rupture disc burst pressure that otherwise may be created due to the heat generated during weld joint formation.

An overpressure indicating disk apparatus for indicating an overpressure condition in a pressurized system includes a body having end portions, a bore, and a reverse buckling disk having an annular peripheral portion and a concave convex dome portion. The annular portion surrounds the dome. The first end portion is attached and in pressure communication to the pressurized system. The pressure in the bore is the same pressure as the pressure of the pressurized system. The annular peripheral portion is mounted to the body. An indicating component/ring is affixed to the body and disk. A central tab is mounted inside the ring. The concave side faces the central tab. The convex side faces the pressure inside the bore. When the pressure in the bore exceeds a preselected maximum pressure value, the disk reverses to engage and displace the central tab thereby indicating visually that an overpressure condition exists within the bore.

The present invention provides an improved method of manufacturing a rupture disk and specifically of forming a score on a rupture disk. The method of the present invention includes the rotating of a rupture disk blank relative to an electrical discharge machining or 'EDM' cutting wire and the simultaneous moving of the EDM cutting wire toward the axis of the disk while maintaining the wire in a selected position such as generally parallel to the disk peripheral skirt or flange. The rotation of the disk and the movement of the EDM wire can be precisely controlled with the motion system of a commercially available EDM machine. With the present invention, a precise score is cut a partial distance through the disk thickness and preferably on the convex side of the dome, near the transition from the dome to the flange and in a generally 'c' shaped pattern. The formed score creates a pattern of weakness so that the disk will open in either of the forward or reverse buckling direction. Score patterns other than the &#x201c;c&#x201d; shaped pattern could be cut.

Wire electrical discharge machined rupture disk and method

A rupture panel of three layers employs a lower layer (e.g. foam) that is adhesive, a middle layer (e.g. metallic) and a hold down layer. The middle layer has a weakened portion (scoring, openings, for example) that defines the panel burst pressure. A part of the lower layer does not connect to the middle layer. That part that does not connect to the middle layer adheres to the hold down layer. The hold down layer can be in the form of a ring with an open center, the weakened portion of the middle layer occupying a position within the open center of the hold down layer.

An overpressure indicating disk apparatus for indicating an over pressure condition in a pressurized system includes a body having first and second end portions and a bore, the first end portion configured for attachment to the pressurized system and in pressure communication therewith so that the pressure in the bore is the same pressure as the pressure of the pressurized system. A reverse buckling disk having an annular peripheral portion and a concave convex dome portion is provided. The annular peripheral portion surrounds the dome. The disk annular peripheral portion is mounted to the body, closing the bore at the first end portion. An indicating component or ring is affixed to the combination of a body and reverse buckling disk. The indicating ring has an annular peripheral portion that aligns generally with the annular peripheral portion of the reverse buckling rupture disk. A movable central tab portion is mounted inside the indicating component or ring. A hinge connects the central tab portion to the indicating ring. The concave side of the reverse buckling disk faces the central tab. The convex side of the reverse buckling disk faces the pressure inside the bore. When the pressure in the bore exceeds a preselected maximum pressure value, the disk reverses to engage and displace the central tab thereby indicating visually that an overpressure condition exists within the bore.

There is provided herein an improved rupture panel or disk that consists of a sheet metal top section with a relatively thick polymer foam seal attached thereto. In the preferred arrangement the instant invention does not require a separate support member. The foam sealing component is preferably attached to the top section by some sort of adhesive to hold it in place and it is installed on the process side of the top section. Additionally, the sealing member is preferably of a thickness which is substantially thicker than would typically be used in a conventional rupture panel arrangement. In another preferred embodiment the sealing member is also designed to function as a gasket, thereby eliminating the need for that separate member.

A polymer rupture disk in the form of a cartridge or capsule that can be inserted in a fluid line fixture as a replaceable unit to establish a predetermined rupture pressure or safety pressure for that particular pressurized container.

Self-contained rupture disk cartridge

A sensor body has an orifice forming a central fluid flow passage therethrough and supports a thin conducting frangible rod, such as graphite, across the central fluid flow passage. The graphite rod and connectors are insulated from the body when the body is made from a conducting material such as metal. When the graphite rod is broken by fluid flow, a circuit is broken and an alarm condition is created.

A rupture disk provides an improved scoring configuration that allows low pressure burst disks of very small diameter such as, for example, 0.25 inches in diameter, wherein the score of the rupture disk is generally circular in shape which terminates at end portions that define a hinge therebetween.
