A rotary joint for connecting a stationary body to a rotating body. The rotary joint has a rotatable wear plate connectable to the rotating body and a seal ring seated in the wear plate. A spring-biased piston engages the seal ring against the wear plate by compressed springs between an end flange and the piston. The end flange and the piston are at least partially disposed within a shroud, wherein the shroud has at least one aperture extending there through. Alignment rings are formed on the piston and viewable through the aperture in the shroud to confirm the proper distance between the end flange and the piston and the proper force applied to the piston. A seal wear indicator is connected to the piston and moves between an exposed position, wherein the seal ring is not worn, and a non-exposed position, wherein the seal ring is worn.

A turbulence bar assembly for a cylinder that extends in an axial direction includes a plurality of bars that extend in the axial direction and at least one hoop. The at least one hoop has one or more hoop segments that are connected to the plurality of bars and one or more couplers that are in engagement with the one or more hoop segments to expand and contract a radial dimension of the at least one hoop in response to movement of an adjustment block in the axial direction.

A support apparatus and method is disclosed for supporting a syphon within a rotating cylinder. The apparatus includes a hub which is disposed within the rotating cylinder. The hub has a first and a second end, the hub defining a bore which extends between the ends of the hub for rotatably supporting the syphon. A first, second and third arm extend from the hub, each of the arms extending radially outwardly from the hub. Each of the arms has an inner and an outer extremity. The inner extremities of the arms are disposed adjacent to the hub. Also, the outer extremities of the arms are disposed adjacent to an internal surface of the rotating cylinder such that the arms and the hub support the syphon within the rotating cylinder while permitting rotation of the rotating cylinder relative to the syphon.

Dryer siphon device

A shoe device secured to a syphon is disclosed for removing condensate from an internal surface of a rotating cylinder. The shoe device includes a shoe portion which is disposed adjacent to the internal surface of the rotating cylinder. The shoe portion defines a passageway having an upstream and a downstream end. The passageway permits a flow there through of the condensate from the internal surface of the rotating cylinder, through the upstream end of the passageway to the downstream end of the passageway. The shoe portion has a first and a second side, a surface extending between the first and second sides of the shoe portion. The surface is disposed adjacent to the internal surface of the cylinder. The shoe portion also has a leading and a trailing end and a face extending between the leading and trailing ends of the shoe portion. A clamp is secured to a distal end of the syphon and is connected to the shoe portion for clamping the shoe portion to the syphon. An anchor plate is secured to the clamp and is disposed between the shoe portion and the clamp for anchoring the shoe portion.

A dual-purpose, cooling/drying apparatus comprising a rotatable cooling/drying cylinder wherein air, steam, and water supplied from sources external of the cooling/drying cylinder are selectively introducible into and removable from a space defined inside the cylinder. The apparatus includes a first flow path through which the water is selectively introducible into the cylinder space, and a second, separate flow path through which either of the air and steam are selectively introducible into the cylinder space. The apparatus is characterized by a cooling mode, in which the water and air are selectively introducible into the cylinder space through the first and second flow paths, respectively, and a drying mode, wherein the steam is selectively introducible into the cylinder space through the second flow path.

An apparatus is disclosed for increasing a transfer of thermal energy through an inner surface of a hollow cylindrical dryer of a papermaking machine to a peripheral outer surface of the dryer. The apparatus includes a plurality of bars of rectangular cross-sectional configuration, each of the bars extending axially within the dryer. The bars are disposed spaced and parallel relative to each other with each of the bars being urged outwardly against the inner surface of the dryer. A mechanism is provided for urging each of the bars radially outward against the inner surface of the dryer. The mechanism includes a plurality of hoop rings which are spaced axially within the dryer, each hoop ring being disposed normal to an axis of rotation of the dryer.

An apparatus is disclosed for increasing a transfer of thermal energy through an inner surface of a hollow cylindrical dryer of a papermaking machine to a peripheral outer surface of the dryer. The apparatus includes a plurality of bars of rectangular cross-sectional configuration, each of the bars extending axially within the dryer. The bars are disposed spaced and parallel relative to each other with each of the bars being urged outwardly against the inner surface of the dryer. Also, each of the bars defines an axially extending enclosure.

A rotary joint comprising a stationary head including a fluid chamber therein, the chamber opening at a bottom surface of the heaf, a rotatable nipple having an outer surface and an internal axial passageway in fluid communication with the fluid chamber; and a seal member disposed on the outer surface of the nipple. The seal member comprises a rigid body including a radial flange portion having opposite first and second surfaces each carrying at least one seal, the seal of the first surface sealingly engaging the bottom surface of the head. The seal member and the nipple are radially moveable in relation to the fixed head while maintaining sealing engagement between the at least one seal of the first surface of the radial flange portion and the bottom surface of the head.

A self-supported rotary joint for introducing a heating or cooling medium, such as steam or water, into a rotating drying or cooling drum. The rotary joint is supported upon the drum structure by a rotating bearing housing whose bearings support the stationary nipple. The nipple supports the stationary rotary joint body head, and the stationary syphon support tube which supports the stationary syphon structure inside the drum. To prevent damage to the hoses supplying steam or water to the joint body head, and removing condensate or water from the joint, in the event of bearing seizure causing rotating of the nipple, the joint body head is mounted upon the nipple outer end by frangible connectors in the form of shear pins which prevent excessive torque being imposed on the joint body head. The support tube serves as a thermal steam sleeve which is interposed between the steam and bearings to reduce bearing temperatures, and the bearings are axially located by spring means maintaining the bearings' position within the bearing housing regardless of thermal expansion.

The present invention features a fishing safety pouch for securing the lure and hooks of a fishing rod in a protected position and for simultaneously securing the fishing line in a taut condition to prevent fouling of the fishing line while the rod is being carried by the fishing sportman. The fishing safety pouch comprises a tough, non-abradable fabric having inner and outer surfaces defining a hollow envelope disposed therebetween. The fabric is foldable about a midportion thereof for folding and encasing the inner surface about a lure and hooks of the fishing line. A soft, flexible mat is disposed within the hollow envelope between the inner and outer surfaces of the fabric for providing a resilient feel throughout the entire outer surface of the fabric.
