This disclosure involves a method of controlling a safety critical control device, the method comprising: sending user inputs to a first state machine, identifying user inputs by the first state machine, determining the correct state to communicate to a second state machine, the correct state being determined by selecting one state of a plurality of states depending on the user inputs, communicating the correct state to a second state machine through a control bus, and determining the correct state for the second state machine based on communication from the control bus.

A system, apparatus, and method for multiple wavelength Raman interrogation laser generation and Raman spectra acquisition. An intracavity laser tuning subsystem is integrated into the laser cavity. The tuning subsystem allows switching between at least two laser output frequencies in a manner effective for good identification and separation of Raman spectra from non-Raman spectra, including auto-fluorescence from the sample and background. The tuning subsystem can be implemented in different ways in the cavity. It does not require material alteration of the line-narrowing components. Also, processing of acquired raw signal from the multiple wavelength interrogation can further assist effective Raman spectra identification and separation.

A source of light that could cause ocular damage within a given range from the source of light, such as a first laser, is accompanied by an optical hazard avoidance device, such as a second laser, that stimulates voluntary, involuntary, or both voluntary and involuntary responses, either physiological or behavioral or both physiological and behavioral, within one or more hazard zones, such as by inducing gaze aversion within the viewer. For example, a visible laser beam induces gaze aversion, pupil contraction or a combination of gaze aversion and pupil contraction, reducing the dose rate or exposure of the ocular tissue to damaging radiation from a primary source. In one example, the primary source is a UV Raman detector and the visible laser beam is selected to induce gaze aversion.

Optical hazard avoidance and method

A drafting instrument is provided for making pictorial drawings, especially axonometric projections. The instrument is in the form of a template which is placed over the drafting surface and may be attached to a drafting machine, straight edge, T-square, or the like. The template is formed with a straight lower edge, perpendicular side edges and a pair of upper edges defining an angle corresponding to the angle of the view to be drawn, i.e. dimetric, trimetric, isometric. The template includes a vertical centerline at the junction of the two upper edges. The margins along each angled upper edge is marked with graduated markings corresponding to the particular angle of the template and parallel to the adjacent angled upper edge. The template also includes a rectangular window or slot extending parallel to the lower edge and provided with graduated markings formed along the edges thereof for use in preparing the views.

Drafting instrument

A machine is provided for use by draftsmen, illustrators and artists in making various axonometric or three dimensional drawings, such as isometric, dimetric, trimetric as well as perspective views. The machine includes a flat working surface which supports drafting paper or the like placed thereon. Provided along the borders of the working surface and visible to the draftsman are changeable construction guide lines along with ellipse angle selection data by use of which the draftsman may prepare various types of three dimensional views. The construction guide reference lines in one embodiment are provided by means of a printed chart on a roll which moves under the working surface, and by moving the chart in one direction or the other the reference lines may be moved according to the requirements of the drawing to be made. Each roll may contain a number of different construction guide lines at different angles in order to make a wide variety of three dimensional views such as isometric, dimetric, trimetric and the like. When used to produce perspective illustrations, each group of depth of field lines is provided with corresponding ellipse angle information whereby three dimensional views may be prepared without the usual plotting requirements and a wide range of scale elevation, distance and perspective angle are readily available.
