A positive displacement pump for pumping a fluid mastic comprises a plurality of cylinders each having a piston arranged for reciprocal motion within the cylinder. Movement of the piston in a first direction draws the fluid into the cylinder and movement in a second, opposite direction pumps the fluid out of the cylinder. A variable speed electric motor is drivingly coupled to a cam arrangement providing a reciprocating drive to the pistons. The cam arrangement comprises cams shaped and arranged to drive each piston in the first direction over less than half of a rotational cycle and to drive each piston in the second direction over the remainder of the rotational cycle. The cams are arranged to drive the pistons out of phase with one another.

High pressure pump

A system for delivery of a high viscosity fluid comprises a variable speed pump. A circuit through which the fluid is pumped comprises a loop having a plurality of fluid off-takes from the circuit. A controller controls the operation and speed of the pump, (i) such that the pump pumps the fluid in the circuit in a high pressure mode in which fluid flows from the pump to the fluid off-takes through both ends of the loop. During the high pressure mode, the controller controls the speed of the pump to maintain the pressure of the fluid in the circuit. The controller also controls the operation and speed of the pump, (ii) such that the pump pumps the fluid around the circuit in a low pressure mode during periods when none of the fluid off-takes are being used.

High pressure fluid system

A paint circulating systemand a pressure relief moduleutilized therein are described. The paint circulating systemcomprises a pressurized paint supply pipeline, a tank return pipelineand a pressure relief module. The pressure relief modulecomprises: a first flow chamberthrough which pressurized paint is provided to said supply pipeline; a second flow chamberthrough which paint returns to said tank return pipeline; an orificeinterconnecting said first and second flow chambers; and a valve memberbiased towards the orifice so as to block said orifice. The valve memberis moveable in response to a pressure in said first flow chamberexceeding a predetermined relief pressure so as to displace said valve memberto open said orifice. This allows paint to flow from said first flow chamberinto said second flow chamber, preventing failure occurring in the paint circulating system

Pressure relief module

A paint circulating systemand a pressure relief moduleutilised therein are described. The paint circulating systemcomprises a pressurised paint supply pipeline, a tank return pipelineand a pressure relief module. The pressure relief modulecomprises: a first flow chamberthrough which pressurised paint is provided to said supply pipelinea second flow chamberthrough which paint returns to said tank return pipelinean orificeinterconnecting said first and second flow chambers; and a valve memberbiased towards the orifice so as to block said orifice. A paint circulating system back pressure regulator comprises a flow passage for paint, at least part of which is disposed between a fixed structure and a moveable surface which is moveable to vary the width of the flow passage so as to regulate a pressure of paint upstream of the regulator. The regulator is also provided with a chamber having an opening for communicating with a supply of a pressurised fluid for controlling operation of the regulator.

Back pressure regulator

A paint circulating system back pressure regulator comprises a flow passage for paint, at least part of which is disposed between a fixed structure and a moveable surface which is moveable to vary the width of the flow passage so as to regulate a pressure of paint upstream of the regulator. The regulator is also provided with a chamber having an opening for communicating with a supply of a pressurized fluid for controlling operation of the regulator.

A pump primarily for liquid paint includes first and second pistons reciprocable rectilinearly in respective first and second cylinders. The first and second pistons are moved relative to their respective pistons by operation of an A. C. electric motor the rotary output shaft of which is coupled to the first and second pistons by a constant velocity cam and a cam follower mechanism converting rotary motion of the output shaft into reciprocatory motion of the first and second pistons 180&#xb0; out of phase with one another.

A paint circulating system is suitable for providing paint to applicators in a product finishing facility. The system includes a pump for pumping paint around the system and a back-pressure regulator (BPR), which substantially eliminates pressure fluctuations of paint in the system upstream of the BPR. A controller is provided for controlling the pump and the BPR to operate in one of a flow mode, wherein a required flow rate of paint around the system is maintained, and a pressure mode, wherein a pressure of paint between the pump and the BPR is maintained. The paint circulating method includes switching operation of the pump and the BPR between the flow mode and the pressure mode.
