A method for providing training media to a mobile device involves obtaining a training media file selected from multiple training media files, based on user metadata, and communicating the training media file to the mobile device, where the user metadata is associated with a user of the mobile device, and where the training media file includes training information associated with a job function of the user.

In one embodiment, a method and apparatus for rapid categorization of data center serviceability characteristics is disclosed. The method includes identifying one or more variables of interest relating to serviceability of data centers, identifying one or more archetypal data center patterns using historical data for the one or more variables of interest, wherein the one or more archetypal data center patterns do not include mythical measurements, collecting data for the one or more variables of interest from a target data center, and determining a best match of the collected data from the target data center to one of the archetypal data center patterns. Rapid categorization of data center serviceability characteristics

In one embodiment, a method and apparatus for Kalman filtering for grid computing telemetry and workload management is disclosed. The method includes monitoring telemetry data at a node of a grid computing engine with a Kalman filter, determining whether the monitored telemetry data is outside of a bounds of a predictive model of the Kalman filter, signaling an error condition for the node if the monitored telemetry data is outside of the bounds, and addressing the error condition by correcting a problem experienced at the node corresponding to the error condition. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

Kalman filtering for grid computing telemetry and workload management

A service provider system adapted for distributing services, including patch selection and delivery, in a distributed computing environment. The system includes a service manager linked to the communications network that functions to obtain and store client system information from the client systems during performance of the services. A service deployment tool registers service providers by storing service proxies from the service providers that are executable code and include an interface defining the methods implemented by the service. The tool functions to transfer service proxies to the client system in response to service requests. A service selection tool processes service requests to match service proxies to select appropriate available services for the client system. The client system includes a virtual service mechanism for registering as a recipient with the service manager, transmitting the service requests, and executing the service proxies received in response to the service requests.

Service provider system for delivering services in a distributed computing environment

A method and system are provided for issuing credit as payment in a consumer transaction which eliminates the need for a traditional credit card while also minimizing any potential for fraud or theft. The present invention responds to a request for issuing a credit transaction number that is made concurrent with a particular transaction. The credit transaction number is then randomly generated and made valid only for the requested transaction, and automatically ages a short period of time after the request. The credit transaction numbers are continually recycled for subsequent requests irrespective of the customer identity. The request can be made from a mobile communication device such as PCS telephone, or from a personal computer using an electronic commerce program. Transactions between customers and registered or known vendors can be automatically carried out by a centralized service provider without generating the unique, temporary number, or without the need for the customer or vendor to exchange personal information.
