Locomotion exercise enhancement equipment comprises a frame which is supported for rolling motion along ground by a pair of axled wheels. The user either pulls or pushes the frame. A rotary load is supported on the frame and operatively coupled with the axled wheels to cause resistance to be imposed on the rotation of the wheels. A selector control varies the degree of coupling of the wheels with the rotary load to thereby vary the effective load imposed on the wheels. Several embodiments of the locomotion exercise enhancement equipment are disclosed. In one of these embodiments the rotary load comprises a disk that is attached to a housing containing a differential mechanism; as the equipment is rolled, the wheels drive the differential mechanism, causing the housing and the disk to rotate. A caliper brake mechanism disposed in association with the disk is set by an adjustment mechanism to impart a desired force against opposite sides of the disk, and thereby set the desired loading.

Locomotion exercise enhancement equipment

An exercise machine for performing supination and pronation exercises comprises a framework, a weight stack carriage that is supported on said frame work for vertical motion, and an input mechanism that is operably coupled by a cable and a system of sheaves on the framework to the weight stack carriage. The input mechanism comprises a horizontal shaft that has operating handles at opposite ends for rotating the shaft. A bi-cam is disposed on the shaft, and one end of the cable is tethered to a high point of the bi-cam. The bi-cam has respective cam profiles in its respective halves; one profile interacts with the cable when the shaft is rotated in one sense from a starting position, and the other profile interacts with the cable when the shaft is rotated in the opposite sense from the starting position. The cams have decreasing profiles so that the torque load imposed on the user progressively decreases as the shaft is rotated from the starting point, thereby enabling the machine to closely match the user's strength profile for performing supinations and pronations.

Supinator/pronator exercise machine

A weight exercise machine comprising a cable and sheave system via which the user operates a stack of weights by grasping pulls. The pulls are attached to free ends of the cable whereby the cable is untethered on the machine frame. The untethered ends pass through respective sheave assemblies which are vertically adjustable on the machine frame and the cable is guided by a system of pulleys for an operative engagement with the weight stack. The weight stack is mounted on a separate rack frame which is adjustably inclinable on the machine frame. The weight stack is arranged for operation along the length of the rack frame so that as a consequence, the resistance encountered by the user when operating the machine is a function of the inclination of the rack frame. A power device such as a motor-drive ball screw and nut may be used to adjust the inclination of the rack frame. An optional feature comprises a power seat which has a foot rest containing control switches for operating the adjustment mechanism. Plural embodiments of sheave assemblies are also disclosed, and the sheave assemblies can be made power adjustable as well.

Weight exercise machine

A cable exercise machine has the capability for allowing a user to perform various exercises by the lifting and lowering of weights by means of a cable. The cable is tethered at opposite ends on the frame of the machine and it passes through a sheave assembly and a sheave block assembly. The user pulls on the sheave block assembly to lift the weights. The sheave assembly is adjustably positionable on the frame of the machine to different positions and is operatively related with the cable and the sheave block assembly such that the sheave block assembly hangs free from the sheave assembly substantially the same amount for all adjustment positions of the sheave block assembly on the frame so that the user can remain in the same position relative to the machine for all adjustment positions of the sheave assembly. Additional exercise stations are provided, a seat and bench station, and a leg exercise station. These have adjustment capabilities and may be used in conjunction with the cable-operated weights.
