A Low Insertion Force Socket Assembly includes a base (2), cavities (24), electrical contacts (4) in the cavities, rails (6)(8) which engage and close the receptacles onto electrical leads (46) of an electronic package (48) and a reciprocating cam (12) integral with a cover (10) and latches (42) and a detent finger (44) and pilot holes (36A)(36B)(36C) for aligning the parts during assembly.

Low insertion force socket assembly

A low insertion force connector for DIP leads includes a pair of pusher rails for engaging and closing normally open receptacle contacts. The rails cooperate with a unitary, lever actuated cam. A cover retains the rails and cam stackably assembled to a housing containing the contacts. The cam has serially arranged cam surfaces, guide keys and detents which interengage various assembled parts of the connector.

Low insertion force dip connector

Multi-contact electrical connector comprises a housing having a plurality of side-by-side cavities extending therethrough. Each cavity has a terminal therein which has a wire-in-slot connecting means intermediate its ends and a crimpable portion, adjacent to the rearward end of the cavity, which can be crimped onto a wire. The wire-receiving means and the crimpable means are arranged such that a wire can be inserted into the wire-receiving slot and the crimpable portion can be crimped onto the wire in a single stroke of an inserting and crimping tool.
