An apparatus for producing an annular electron beam comprises a cathode for generating electrons, a cavity having an annular shape and operable to receive the electrons, an energy input coupled to the cavity, where the energy input is operable to supply Radio Frequency (RF) energy at the cavity and an energy output coupled to the cavity and operable to receive accelerated electrons from the cavity and operable to output the accelerated electrons as an annular electron beam.

System and method for producing terahertz radiation

A mobile irradiation device for providing either energetic electrons or short wavelength photons, i.e., gamma ray and/or x-rays has a photocathode, a laser for illuminating the photocathode and a radio-frequency electron gun for accelerating electrons emitted from the laser illuminated photocathode. A quadrupole magnet triple facilitates focusing of energetic electrons onto the target or the material to be irradiated.

Mobile irradiation device

A method and apparatus for forming a detached, compact toroidally shaped spheromak plasma by an inductive mechanism. A generally spheroidal vacuum vessel (1) houses a toroidally shaped flux ring or core (2) which contains poloidal and toroidal field generating coils. A plasma discharge occurs with the pulsing of the toroidal field coil, and the plasma is caused to expand away from the core (2) and toward the center of the vacuum vessel (1). When the plasma is in an expanded state, a portion of it is pinched off in order to form a separate, detached spheromak plasma configuration. The detached plasma is supported by a magnetic field generated by externally arranged equilibrium field coils (5).
