The present invention relates to a control system for a rock crusher which is adapted for use with Vertical Shaft Impact rock crusher which divides the rock it processes into a stream which is supplied to a central rotor and a stream which cascades past the rotor. The control system is used to control the ratio of material placed into the cascade and includes a processing means which is adapted to receive a throughput signal from at least one throughput sensor. The processing means is adapted to transmit at least one control signal to at least one control mechanism of the crasher, and at least one control signal or signals are transmitted to said control mechanism or mechanisms to adjust the amount of material entering the crusher rotor to provide a specific cascade ratio for the crusher in response to a variable throughput of material.

Control system

The invention relates to a rotary mineral breaker, a rotor and a method of using a rotary mineral breaker. The rotary mineral breaker includes a rotor having an inlet for mineral pieces at and/or substantially parallel to the rotary axis thereof from above and at least one peripheral exit port for such materials to exit in the same and/or a modified form radially of the rotor into a surrounding mineral piece interaction zone, the rotor being characterised in that in use for each exit port there will be a retained bed of mineral pieces having (a) a greater vertical extend inwardly of the exit port than at the exit port itself and/or (b) starting higher inwardly that at the exit port itself and being further characterised in that at the trailing boundary of each exit port there is at least a sacrificial member which acts or will act directly or indirectly as a weir for the retained bed of mineral pieces and over which other mineral pieces may be flung, said retained mineral pieces extending inwardly to a backup form which limits the inward intrusion of the retained bed.

Rotary mineral breakers

In a rotary mineral crusher a method of either localising the wear on a weir tip ( ) in the crusher and/or focusing the output of the rotor ( ) into its interaction chamber and/or reducing mineral erosion of the exterior of the rotor ( ) by mineral piece particles energised by the output from the rotor ( ). The rotary mineral crusher is of a kind having a rotor ( ) into which the mineral pieces to be reduced in size, that is crushed, are fed from above and least substantially axially over the axis of rotation of the rotor ( ) to thereafter migrate on an acceleration locus or loci of migration there retained bed or retained beds of mineral pieces from the rotor ( ) substantially radially of the rotor ( ) into the surrounding interaction chamber capable of retaining the lining of the mineral material. The method comprises or includes retaining the, or each, rotor ( ) retained bed of mineral pieces with weir-like means defining a sacrificial edge or weir tip ( ) over at least substantially the traverse extend of a migration locus at each edge. The sacrificial edge is of the form which allows an enhanced flow of mineral pieces over a preferred region of the sacrificial edge without reliance for such enhanced outflow ( ), on a symmetric &ldquo;V&rdquo; or &ldquo;U&rdquo; or scallop. The means to retain the lining of mineral pieces of the surrounding interaction chamber is also configured so as to provide a preference for interaction of mineral pieces in a zone of the surrounding chamber adequately lined with such mineral pieces. Optionally, there is also provided shielding means ( ) to at least substantially confine the mineral pieces of the interaction zone from the rotor ( ), save over the enhanced outflow ( ) focus, and thereof at least towards the retained lining of the mineral pieces of the interaction chamber.

Rotor flow matching to mineral breaking chamber

A rotary mineral breaker of the type having a rotor ( ) able to rotate about a substantially vertical axis. The rotor has an inlet for mineral pieces which are to be broken. The inlet is substantially parallel to the rotary axis when viewed from above. The rotor also has at least one peripheral exit port ( ) for such materials, that is minerals after breaking, to exit radially of the rotor into a surrounding mineral material interaction zone ( ). The rotor has a feature that at the or each peripheral port, but carried by the said rotor, there is means providing an exit port geometry which at least includes a mineral piece there to accumulation weir ( ) to encourage by the appropriate profiling of the bed, those mineral pieces accelerating, in use, on the bed of retained mineral pieces ( ) to exit over the weir ( ) away from the upper regions of the retained bed ( ).
