A fire protection system for installation about the periphery of a cable tray consisting of parallel side rails and spaced cross members fitted between the side rails and comprising heat expanding, fire retardant composite sheet material joined together to form a protective enclosure around the cable tray and means for mechanically joining sections of the fire protection system are disclosed.

Cable tray protection system

Flexible intumescent sheet materials containing low density filler components to provide low density mounting mats which reduce the mount density to prevent ceramic diesel particulate monolith cracking are disclosed.

Intumescent sheet material containing low density fillers

Flexible intumescent sheet materials having greatly decreased negative expansion characteristics in the range of 200.degree. to 400.degree. C. and which are thermally resistant and resilient after expansion are disclosed. The flexible intumescent sheets are particularly useful for mounting automotive catalytic converter monoliths.

Intumescent sheet material

The disclosure relates to flexible heat expanding, fire retardant composite materials comprising an intumescent component in granular form, an organic binder component such as an elastomer, an organic char-forming component and fillers such as clay, silica, synthetic organic staple fibers or inorganic fiberglass or ceramic fibers. These composites, when subjected to heat at about 110.degree. C., can intumesce up to ten times their original volume.

Intumescent fire retardant composites

At least two similar sheets of intumescent sheet material one of which is coated with adhesive on one face are adhered with an offset and with liner paper covering the exposed adhesive covered layer of the offset. Dimensions are made so that the laminate can be conformably wrapped around a ceramic monolith, the liner removed and the ends of the two laminate adhered. This provides ease of insertion of ceramic monoliths in coverings and after heating expansion of the intumescent material secures the monolith in the covering.
