A swimming pool alarm responsive to wave motion that will produce a signal when two waves exceeding a threshold level of amplitude are sensed within a preset duration of time. A transducer senses air or water pressure changes and produces electrical signals corresponding to the changes. A comparator system, connected to the transducer, receives the transducer signals and, if the signals exceed a preset threshold level, transmits a signal to the discriminator system. The discriminator times the signals received from the comparator and when two signals are received within a specified period of time, a third signal is generated. A warning device such as an alarm is connected to the discriminator and will be activated by the third signal.

A power supply system for use in a fault-tolerant computer having a main bus interconnecting several main bus elements, with at least one of the elements being capable of transmitting commands and receiving status information. The system includes a status bus which is coupled to the main bus. A control unit is associated with each bus element, such control unit including a voltage regulator connected to a primary source of power for providing regulated voltage to the associated bus element in response to commands received over the status bus from the main bus. The primary power source preferably includes redundant power supplies which provide voltage which is distributed over a pair of redundant voltage buses. Apparatus for sensing when a main bus element has seized the main bus may be included so that the bus element can be commanded by way of the status bus to release the main bus.

Fault-tolerant power supply system

A gas discharge lamp is connected across an inductor and in series with a solid state switching device and a resistor, and this combination is connected across a voltage source. This switching device is controlled by a monostable multivibrator, the input of which is connected to the output of a comparator amplifier sensing the difference between the voltage drop across the above-mentioned resistor and a reference voltage which may be changed to vary light intensity. A supply voltage feedback control loop uses a power oscillator to maintain the voltage supplied to the inductor and the lamp at a level corresponding to a symmetrical voltage wave form in the lamp in order to maximize lamp efficiency. A reference voltage feedback control loop controls the reference voltage supplied to the comparator amplifier in order to minimize the effect of power line variations on lamp intensity while allowing controlled variations in intensity by the user. The supply voltage feedback control loop provides an input impedance to a 60-Hertz power source which is exclusively resistive and non-reactive, thereby maximizing efficiency of the power supply.
