In order to assist persons of limited skill or time to test electromechanical or other relays without the need for VOM testing and time-consuming test setup, switching circuits, current sources are used in an automated test set with a stored program which tests the impedance between each terminal of the relay and every other terminal of the relay, identifies the terminals for the relay coil and for the relay's contact terminals and whether the contacts are NO, NC, or double throw type. The test set notes the presence or absence of a coil-suppression device across the coil, repetitively tests operation of the contacts, and informs the human operator, in simple terms, if the relay is operable and safe for use with delicate drive circuits.

Method and apparatus for automated relay testing

A noncontact sensor detects the signal waveform of analog and digital signals transmitted individually and, alternately, in combination, in designated transmission frequency bands on a pair of conductors.

Noncontact signal analyzer

A multiple phase CRC (cyclic redundancy check) generator having a clock phasing circuit having an input connected to the CRC clock source and a plurality of N phase clock outputs, and a plurality of N CRC circuits each having a data input, and a phase clock input each connected to one of the clock phasing circuit phase clock outputs, and each having a cyclic redundancy check output. The clock phasing circuit preferably is formed of a sequence of divided-by-two circuits each having an input and two outputs; there being N-1 divider circuits arranged in log.sub.2 N tiers, the divider circuits of the first tier having its input connected to the clock output and the outputs of the last tier of divider circuits each being connected to separate clock inputs of the CRC circuits.
