Embodiments of a system, method and apparatus for a gear are disclosed. For example, a metallic gear hub can include an axis of rotation and metallic gear teeth. The metallic gear teeth can be smaller than a final gear teeth size of the gear. The metallic gear teeth can be co-planar with the axis. In addition, the metallic gear teeth can be non-orthogonal to the axis. A polymer layer can be located on the metallic gear teeth to form polymer gear teeth on the metallic gear teeth. The polymer gear teeth can form the final gear teeth size of the gear.

A steering assist system of a steering column assembly is provided. The system includes a worm rotatably driven by an actuator. The system also includes a worm gear having a first set of teeth and a second set of teeth, the first set of teeth in meshed engagement with the worm, the worm gear operatively coupled to a steering shaft. The system further includes a lock feature moveable into and out of engagement with the second set of teeth of the worm gear to define a locked condition and an unlocked condition of the worm gear.

The method includes forming a gear blank having a plurality of individual lugs formed about an outer circumferential edge of said blank to facilitate a uniform flow of a material around said plurality of individual lugs. A gear includes an inner hub formed of metal material, the inner hub having an outer surface defining a plurality of outer teeth. The gear also includes an outer ring formed of non-metal material, the outer ring having an inner diameter that is smooth. Also included is a second shaft operatively coupled to the first shaft, the second shaft having a second shaft cavity disposed therein. Also included is a worm gear defining a slot with a slot wall, a first portion of the slot wall configured to engage a first side of the stop tooth to define a first radial boundary of the worm gear, a second portion of the slot wall configured to engage a second side of the stop tooth to define a second radial boundary of the worm gear.

An end cone assembly for an exhaust emission control device includes an inner cone spacedly disposed within an outer cone. The outer cone comprises a small outer cone end a large outer cone end and an outer wall that diverges from the small outer cone end to the large outer cone end. The inner cone comprises a small inner cone end and a large inner cone end with an inner wall having a first diameter proximal the first inner cone end, wherein the inner wall diverges to a second diameter, wherein the second diameter is disposed proximal a recessed portion having a third diameter at the second inner cone end, and wherein the first diameter is smaller than the third diameter and the third diameter is smaller than the second diameter. The outer wall is disposed in a spaced relation to at least a portion of the inner wall, and, with the exception of the recessed portion, the space between the inner and outer walls is free of insulating material. Disposed within the recessed portion of the inner cone is an insulating member.

End cone assembly, exhaust emission control device and method of making thereof

An internally insulated exhaust aftertreatment device with a converter body, an end cone assembly and a sealing device inserted in an annular area between the external shell and the substrate of the converter body. The sealing device is sealingly engaged between an inner end cone and the insulating material. The sealing device comprises a wire-mesh ring-shaped device conformable to the annulus between the substrate and the shell, and may have a substantially round cross-sectional area, a C-shaped cross-sectional area, or an L-shaped cross-sectional area.

Apparatus and method for an exhaust aftertreatment device

A non-thermal plasma reactor is provided. The reactor includes a plasma-generating substrate, a housing, a voltage supplied to the plasma-generating substrate, and a retention material. The plasma-generating substrate has one or more flow paths for an exhaust gas. The plasma-generating substrate includes at least one weak area and at least one strong area. The housing has an inlet opening and an outlet opening. The voltage is supplied to the plasma-generating substrate for generating a plasma field. The retention material retains the plasma-generating substrate in the housing such that the one or more flow paths are in fluid communication with the inlet opening and the outlet opening. The retention material is configured to provide a higher retention force to the at least one strong area and a lower retention force to the at least one weak area.

Apparatus and method for retention of non-thermal plasma reactor

A relieved support material for a catalytic converter has a strip of support material with one or more relief cuts. This is used to insulate a segment of catalyst along with one or more inner end-cones positioned at the beginning and end of the converter. The support material is wrapped around the catalyst and the one or more inner end-cones. The wrapped support material is then covered with an outer-layer shell.

An intumescent catalyst mounting mat is provided by cutting a single piece of mat into a desired profile and cutting a slit about 1/2 way through the thickness of the mat at a selected fold line. The mat is then easily folded upon itself to create a double thickness mat that is already secured to the next layer and may have any desired profile.
