A medical device is described having a handle and an end effector coupled to the handle. The end effector has at least one electrode for providing electrical signals to a tissue or vessel to be treated. An RF drive circuit is provided for generating an RF drive signal that is applied to the end effector electrode. The RF drive circuit includes a resonant circuit and a frequency controller is used to vary the frequency of a signal passed through the resonant circuit in order to control the power supplied to the end effector electrode.

Medical device

A medical device is described having a handle, a shaft coupled to the handle, an end effector coupled to the shaft and an ultrasonic transducer coupled to the end effector for delivering ultrasonic energy to tissue or a vessel to be treated. A drive circuit is provided for generating a drive signal that is applied to the ultrasonic transducer. In one embodiment, the drive circuit includes a resonant circuit and a controller that varies the period of the drive signal passed through the resonant circuit in order to control the power supplied to the ultrasonic transducer.

A medical device is described having a handle, a shaft coupled to the handle and an end effector coupled to the shaft. In one embodiment, the device includes an ultrasonic transducer and is arranged so that ultrasonic or electrical energy can be delivered to a vessel or tissue to be treated. Various novel sensing circuits are described to allow a measure of the drive signal to be measured and fed back to a controller. An active fuse circuit is also described for protecting one or more batteries of the device from an over-current situation.

A medical instrument is disclosed. The medical instrument includes at least one electrical contact element, a battery, a radio frequency (RF) generation circuit coupled to and operated by the battery and operable to generate an RF drive signal and to provide the RF drive signal to the at least one electrical contact, and a battery discharge circuit coupled to the battery. A processor is coupled to the battery discharge circuit and a memory is coupled to the processor. The memory stores machine executable instructions that when executed cause the processor to monitor activation of the RF generation circuit and disable the RF generation circuit when the RF drive signal is fired a predetermined number of times. The medical instrument may include an activation switch and/or a disposal switch supported by the housing.

A medical instrument is disclosed. The medical instrument includes a housing and a handle for gripping by a user, an end effector coupled to the handle and having at least one electrical contact, a battery, and a radio frequency (RF) generation circuit coupled to and operated by the battery. The RF generation circuit is operable to generate an RF drive signal and to provide the RF drive signal to the at least one electrical contact, wherein the RF generation circuit is supported by the housing. The RF generation circuit includes a resonant circuit that includes at least one inductive element constructed of litz wire.

The medical instrument includes a housing, at least one electrical contact, a radio frequency (RF) generation circuit coupled to and operated by the battery and operable to generate an RF drive signal and to provide the RF drive signal to the at least one electrical contact, and a user interface supported by the housing. The user interface includes visual and audible feedback elements, wherein the state of the instrument can be determined by the state of the visual and audible feedback elements.

Light treatment apparatus

An optical sight comprises an elongate housing defining a light channel. A lens is provided at one end of the light channel and has a partially reflecting surface. A laser diode is energised by a pulsating electric current delivered by a battery powered energising circuit, and the energised laser diode emits light towards the reflecting surface to produce a light spot by direct imaging of the laser diode on the surface. The light spot shall be superimposed on the target when sighting through the light channel from the other end thereof.

Optical sight

An optical instrument, such as a microscope or a camera, is provided for forming a viewable image of an object. The optical instrument comprises an objective lens for forming the viewable image at an image plane, an eye sensor for sensing the direction of gaze of a user viewing the viewable image and means for controlling a controllable function of the optical instrument in dependence upon the sensed direction of gaze. The eye sensor comprises a sensor lens for focusing light reflected from the retina of the user, an imaging transducer located at a plane which is conjugate to the image plane with respect to the sensor lens, for generating an electrical image sign of a portion of the user's retina, a memory for storing retinal image information of the user and circuitry for comparing the retinal image signal generated by the imaging transducer with the stored retinal image information to generate gaze information indicative of the direction of gaze of the user.
