A catheter curvature brace, catheter assembly and method for managing fluid in a patient, the brace being attachable to a distal portion of a shaft of a catheter and having an elongated frame with a distal end and a proximal end. The frame is formed with at least one curve in a relaxed curved configuration. At least two coupling elements are connected to the frame, each coupling element configured to engage an outer surface of the catheter. At least the frame is formed of an elastic, biocompatible material capable of being straightened by a force and then returning to the relaxed curved configuration after the force is removed, thereby bending the catheter to substantially conform to the relaxed curved configuration.

Catheter curvature braces and methods of using same

An implantable bodily fluid drainage system including a collection vessel and a mechanical volume limiting mechanism for preventing overfill of the collection chamber. The mechanical volume limiting mechanism is not susceptible to malfunction if immersed in the bodily fluid. Moreover, the volume capacity of the fluid collection chamber is adjustable in addition to the overfill prevention functionality.

A self-offsetting implantable valve system including a catheter having an outer perimeter, a free terminating end and an opposite second end. A plurality of holes are defined proximate the free terminating end of the catheter. The system further including a self-offsetting memory component disposed radially about the outer perimeter of a portion of the catheter proximate the free terminating end of the catheter. This self-offsetting memory component is transitionable between a first state subject to application of an externally applied force and a second state free from the externally applied force. While in the first state at least a portion of the self-offsetting memory component having a diameter smaller than that same portion of the self-offsetting memory component while in the second state.

Self-offsetting implantable catheter system

An implantable valve assembly including a drainage catheter having a central lumen transitioning into a plurality of distinct branch lumen made of a shape memory material. A bioabsorbable dip coating secures the distal end of the plural distinct branch lumen together in physical contact with one another. Each branch lumen has an outer perimeter comprising at least one of a first outer surface section and a second outer surface section. In a secured state with the plural distinct branch lumen held together by the dip coating fluid is prohibited from passing through the holes defined in the first outer surface section. Bioabsorbable blocking members disposed about the outer perimeter of the assembled branch lumen mask holes defined in the second outer surface section prohibiting fluid from entering therein. In a time staggered fashion, the bioabsorbable elements absorb exposing new holes through which the fluid drains.

Implantable valve assembly with extended lifespan

A pressure sensing catheter having a pressure sensor and an antenna that is coupled to the pressure sensor, e.g., by a connector, are provided. The pressure sensor can be adapted to measure a pressure surrounding the catheter, and the antenna can be adapted to telemetrically communicate the measured pressure to an external device. In an exemplary embodiment, the antenna, pressure sensor, and/or connector are hermetically sealed, e.g., by the catheter and/or a coating, to prevent the antenna, pressure sensor, and connector from coming into contact with fluid, thereby allowing the catheter to be permanently implanted or otherwise used for long term use. Exemplary methods for manufacturing and using pressure sensing catheters are also provided.

Pressure sensing devices

A pressure sensing apparatus has a pressure sensor component that includes a pressure sensing port, a pressure sensor for sensing a pressure of a fluid in the pressure sensing port, and a digital processor communicating with the pressure sensor for performing calculations involving fluid pressures sensed. The pressure sensing apparatus further includes a first chamber in fluid contact with the pressure sensing port, a second chamber fluidically connectable with a patient's cerebrospinal fluid system, and a membrane located between the first and second chambers so as to transmit fluid pressure from the second chamber to the first chamber.

System and method for measuring the pressure of a fluid system within a patient

Methods and devices are provided that allow a physician to consistently and reliably locate an implantable, magnetically settable valve (valve) and to determine and/or change (adjust) a setting of the valve from a current setting to a target setting without interference from the valve and/or patient's skin. In particular, various locator tools are provided that include a housing having a deck extending thereacross that is formed at least in part of a material which is moveable to accommodate a protrusion of a hydrocephalus valve beneath skin.

Methods and devices for locating and adjusting an implantable valve

A catheter and method for managing fluid in a patient, the catheter having an elongated shaft with a distal end and a proximal end. The shaft defines at least one lumen extending substantially therethrough, the shaft further defining a plurality of drainage holes along a distal portion of the shaft, with the drainage holes in fluid communication with the lumen. The catheter further has a substantially transparent tip portion attached to the distal end of the shaft with an outer distal leading surface that is substantially rounded to assist insertion through tissue.

Fluid management catheter and methods of using same

A modular sensor system is disclosed. The system can include one or more sensors, a mounting unit, and a control unit. The mounting unit can enable the control unit and/or one or more sensors to be securely, but detachably, mounted to a patient's body. The control unit can include electronics and other components configured to interface with, monitor, and record data from the one or more sensors. The control unit can further include a wired bus, transceiver, antenna, or other suitable components to enable wireless communication between the system and a central control or monitor. Some or all of the components included in the control unit can be removable from the system to enable some or all of the electronics of the system to be removed.

Telemetric docking station

A shunt system includes a first catheter and a second catheter, each having a proximal end and a distal end, and at least one opening adjacent to its distal end. A proximal end of a drainage catheter is in fluid communication with the proximal end of the first catheter and the proximal end of the second catheter. A first one-way valve is disposed in fluid communication with the first catheter between its proximal end and its at least one opening. The first one-way valve effectively blocks fluid flow from the proximal end to the at least one opening. A second one-way valve is disposed in fluid communication with the second catheter between its proximal end and its at least one opening. The second one-way valve effectively blocks fluid flow from the proximal end to the at least one opening.
