Systems, methods, and computer-readable media herein dynamically adjust the policies used within a core network. These policies are determine based on the identification of a user device being a reduced capability device and the data requirements for that device. A correlation between the type of reduced capability device and the data requirements is used to derive data-drive insights using a near-real time RAN intelligence controller. The data used to determine these insights and policies are based near-real time sources.

Managing a baseband network policy

A method is performed by a wireless mobile network to mitigate interference between communication links. A request is received for resources needed to support an application by a vehicle relative to another vehicle. The resources are configured based on the application and are used to establish a direct communication link between the vehicles. The resources are to be shared between the direct communication link and another communication link. The mobile network defines certain blanked resources that are disallowed for use to perform the application. Any remaining resources (or non-blanked resources) are allowed for use to perform the application. The blanked resources can be used by the other communication link to avoid interference with the direct communication link. The allocation of resources is communicated to the vehicle to establish the direct communication link with the other vehicle.

Network-assisted blanking of shared resources for direct communication links

Examples provide a network testing solution using a remote-controlled testing device. A test device includes a computing device for executing network performance testing logic and a cellular device. The test device controls the cellular device via a series of commands issued to the cellular device by the computing device. The test device is placed onto or inside a vehicle. As the vehicle moves through a geographical area, the test device automatically and autonomously performs network testing operations. The test data generated during the test is periodically uploaded to a central controller. The central controller aggregates test data received from a plurality of test devices assigned to a plurality of vehicles for a given campaign. The aggregated test data is analyzed and filtered to generate performance test results. A user can dynamically set up each campaign and assign test devices and vehicles to each campaign using a graphical user interface.

Performance testing using a remotely controlled device

An access network can allocate a bearer for a network service associated with a quality-of-service (QoS) value (QV) and a retention-priority value (RPV), and determine a bearer ID for the service based on the QV, the RPV, and a supplemental priority value (SPV) different from the QV and from the RPV. Upon handover of a terminal, session(s) carried by a bearer allocated by the terminal can be terminated. That bearer can be selected using IDs of the bearers and a comparison function that, given two bearer IDs, determines which respective bearer should be terminated before the other. Upon handover of a terminal to an access network supporting fewer bearers per terminal than the terminal has allocated, a network node can select a bearer based on respective QVs and RPVs of a set of allocated bearers. The network node can deallocate the selected bearer.

Managing a core network policy

System and methods for smart cell selection and reselection are described. A mobile device may attempt to camp on a cell in a tracking area that has advertised a particular frequency band. If the mobile device is unable to recognize an information element identifying a different subset of the advertised frequency band than that supported by the mobile device, the mobile device will store a record of the tracking area and the advertised frequency band and compare future cell information broadcasts to the entry, avoiding attempts to operate within cells in the same tracking area advertising the same frequency. In this way the mobile device conserves resources by avoiding actions in incompatible cells and avoids storing information about many cells by only storing the tracking area information.

Smart UE cell selection and reselection

A cellular communication network may be configured to use a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) base station and a New Radio (NR) base station to implement a Non-Standalone Architecture (NSA) configuration, in an environment in which the NR base station uses multiple frequency bands that provide respective bandwidths. During an NSA connection with a mobile device, LTE signal strength is used as an indicator of whether the device is within the coverage area of a given NR frequency band. When the LTE signal strength indicates that the device has moved into the coverage area of a frequency band having a higher bandwidth than the currently active NR connection, the device is instructed to release and reestablish its NR connection in order to reconnect using the best available NR frequency band. LTE A1 and/or A5 event measurements may be used to evaluate signal strengths and as triggers for NR release/reestablish operations.

Frequency band handover in dual-connectivity systems

When initiating a Voice-over-IP (VoIP) communication session between an originating device (MO) and a terminating device (MT) on a packet-switched network, network components associated with the MO may encounter a failure when preparing resources for the session, such as a failure to establish a dedicated bearer with the MO. This might typically cause the system to abort the session. Instead, the network components are configured to detect the failure and to initiate a handover to a circuit-switched communication network so that the session may be conducted through the circuit-switched communication network. The failure may be detected by a component of a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) Radio Access Network (RAN) of the network, by a Mobility Management Entity (MME) of the network, or by some other network component. Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) procedures may be used to implement the handover.

Packet-switched to circuit-switched handover during VOIP call initiation

An emergency determining system configured as part of a cellular or mobile network to receive emergency data from public safety answering points and to evaluate the emergency based at least in part on third party data, network data, and the emergency data. For instance, the emergency determining system may determine a level, a geographic area, and/or a response to the emergency and to broadcast, via the cellular or mobile network, notifications to individual's personal electronic devices within the geographic area to alert the individuals to the emergency and to provide instructions related to an appropriate response by the individual.

System and method for generating localized emergency warnings

A mobile network is analyzed to determine outage regions for a dual-connectivity functionality that uses multiple wireless technologies provided by non-collocated network sites. In some examples, a network configuration server receives and analyzes the locations of base transceiver stations (BTSs) within the mobile network, along with the coverage ranges and wireless technologies supported by the BTS network sites. Based on the analyses, the network configuration server determines regions within which certain dual-connectivity functionality is and is not supported for user equipment (UE) devices. The network configuration server may calculate the outage region for a BTS network site based on the distances between the BTS network site and other BTS network sites providing different wireless technologies for the dual-connectivity functionality. Various elements of the mobile network, including the BTS network sites and/or user mobile devices, may be configured based on the determined outage regions.

Dual-connectivity outage detection and remediation for non-collocated network sites

Multiple Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) measurements are obtained at a sampling location for non-millimeter wave radio signals of multiple non-millimeter wave frequencies originating from an antenna site of a base station. A line-of-sight (LOS) distance, an azimuth angle, and an elevation angle between the antenna site and the sampling location are computed. A corresponding Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) measurement at the sampling location for each non-millimeter wave radio signal of the non-millimeter wave radio signals is calculated based on a radio transmission power and an antenna gain factor associated with each non-millimeter wave radio signal. A corresponding path loss exponent at the sampling location for each non-millimeter wave radio signal is then computed based at least on a difference between a corresponding RSRP measurement and the corresponding EIRP measurement, the LOS distance, and a wavelength of a corresponding non-millimeter wave frequency.

Millimeter radio wave line-of-sight prediction for base stations

Systems, methods, and devices can be utilized to selectively connect to a device via extremely high frequency (EHF) radio resources based on the velocity of the device. An example method includes receiving, from a user equipment (UE), a first wireless signal with a first frequency that is less than 30 Gigahertz (GHz). The example method further includes determining a velocity of the UE based on the first wireless signal and determining that the velocity of the UE is less than a threshold velocity. Based on determining that the velocity of the UE is less than the threshold velocity, a second wireless signal is transmitted to the UE with a second frequency that is greater than or equal to 30 GHz.
