A system for application of neurostimulation includes an outer sheath, an elongate inner member in the outer sheath and movable relative to the outer sheath. The inner lumen has a distal end. An expandable member is coupled to the distal end of the inner member and is in the outer sheath. The expandable member is self-expanding upon from a compressed state in the outer sheath to an expanded state out of the outer sheath. The expandable member includes a distal portion including a plurality of wires woven together and a proximal portion including the plurality of wires extending parallel to a longitudinal axis. The system includes a plurality of electrode assemblies outward of the expandable member and circumferentially spaced around the expandable member. Each electrode assembly is coupled to two of the wires extending parallel to the longitudinal axis. Each electrode assembly includes a plurality of longitudinally-spaced electrodes.

A system of forming a bimetal medical device from dissimilar metal components includes a first metal component, a second metal component, a retaining device, a compression mechanism, and an energy source. A method of forming the bimetal medical device with the system includes applying a first pulse of laser energy to a joint formed between the first and second metal components retained by the retaining device and compressing the first and second metal components together with the compression mechanism to form a welded region.

A guidewire for use in a medical procedure includes an elongate guide member dimensioned for insertion within a body vessel of a subject. The guide member defines a longitudinal axis and has trailing and leading end segments. The leading end segment has a reduced cross-sectional dimension relative to a cross-sectional dimension of the trailing end segment. The leading end segment includes a first core element comprising a first material and a second core element comprising a second material different from the first material and being forward of the first core element. The first material of the first core element has greater rigidity than the rigidity of the second material of the second core element, to thereby facilitate advancement of, and application of torque to, the leading end segment while minimizing deformation.

Intravascular guidewire

An endoscopic procedure for the parasympathetic and sympathetic denervation of the nerves of the ovaries and uterus for management of endocrine dysphoric disorders. The tissues of selected inferior mesenteric and pelvic nerves are heated via introduction of radiofrequency energy at sufficient power and time to induce complete or partial nerve blockade while leaving the supporting tissue structurally intact. In some embodiments, the suspensory ligament of the ovary, the ovarian ligament, and/or the uterosacral ligament are heated to a range of 45&#xb0; C. to 65&#xb0; C. for a period of about 5 seconds to about 60 seconds.

Systems and methods for treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorders

An apparatus for implanting a medical device is provided that can be severed by electrolysis from a delivery member positioned in a patient. The apparatus can include an electrolytically detachable component that interconnects the medical device and the delivery member. The detachable component can have at least one corrodible first portion being adapted to serve as an anode in electrolytic corrosion. The at least one first portion can define a body having an outer surface and at least one surface structure extending inwardly from the outer surface into the body. The first portion can be electrolytically corrodible when in contact with a body fluid such that the medical device may be severed by electrolysis.

A guidewire comprising an elongate guide member dimensioned for insertion within a body vessel of a subject is disclosed. The guide member defines a longitudinal axis and has trailing and leading end segments. If the medical device encounters an occlusion, the medical device can be rotated, which can allow the thread members to engage and penetrate the occlusion, in some cases forming a pathway through the occlusion.

A catheter device having a proboscis, such as a needle, and a transducer which detects the axial displacement of the proboscis in relation to the distal tip of the catheter. The transducer is positioned at a distal portion of the catheter and may comprise an induction coil or a potentiometer. Axial displacement of the proboscis changes the amount of inductance or resistance in the transducer. This change in inductance or resistance can be calibrated to the amount of axial displacement of the proboscis and provided as feedback to the user.

Occlusion apparatus, system, and method

Anchoring mechanisms for releasably securing an intravascular device along an elongated member such as a guidewire or catheter. The anchoring mechanism may include an object that can be actuated between an unlocked position and a locked position. In the unlocked position, the anchoring mechanism is slidably and rotationally disposed about the elongated member. In the locked position, the anchoring mechanism is releasably secured to the elongated member, preventing movement thereon. A placement mechanism such as a tubular member can be utilized to actuate the anchoring mechanism between the unlocked and locked positions.

Apparatus for anchoring an intravascular device along a guidewire

The present invention is directed to novel apparatus for use in medical procedures relating to tubular body fluid conduits. According to a first aspect of the invention, a connector apparatus is provided for use in making an anastomotic connection between first and second tubular fluid conduits in a patient. The connector apparatus comprises: (a) a locking member, which further comprises one or more electroactive polymer actuators that switch the locking member between a locking state and a release state; and (b) a connector body that is configured to permit flow of bodily fluid between the first and second tubular fluid conduits. The connector body has a first portion configured for insertion into an axial end of the first tubular fluid conduit and a second portion configured for insertion through a sidewall of the second tubular fluid conduit.

Electroactive polymer actuated medical devices

Elongate medical devices such as guidewires can be formed from a core wire and a preformed distal cap that is configured to fit over a distal end of the core wire. The distal cap can be attached using a variety of techniques. In particular, the distal cap can be attached to the core wire using laser welding.
