A LED lighting module is described that is realized as a printed circuit assembly. The LED lighting module has a carrier with a strip of dielectric material and conductive circuit tracks printed on the dielectric material. Bare LED dies are mounted in a linear formation on the carrier. The width of the LED die formation does not exceed 0.75 mm and the area of the emission face of an LED die does not exceed 0.0625 mm2. Drivers are mounted on the carrier and are connected to drive the LED dies.

LED lighting module

A light engine and system are disclosed in which the light engine contains a core comprising an opening extending through opposing surfaces and a flexible printed circuit board (PCB). The PCB includes a flexible body disposed on an outside of the core and having independently addressable sets of illumination sources mounted thereto, and flexible legs extending from the body and through the opening. The legs are bent such that a terminal portion of each leg is substantially parallel to the opposing surfaces of the core. Independent control of the sets of illumination sources is provided via the legs. The body is separated into segments, each on a different section of the outside and containing body contacts electrically independent of the body contacts of each other segment. Each leg is associated with a different segment, and contains leg contacts on the terminal portion in electrical contact with the associated body contacts.

Light engines with dynamically controllable light distribution

An apparatus and system are disclosed and include a vehicle interior lighting system comprising that includes a light engine with a plurality of independently addressable light emitting diode (LED) segments, each independently addressable LED segment including at least one LED, a flexible printed circuit board (PCB) having a base and plurality of legs extending from the base, each leg supporting an independently addressable LED segment, and a light guide plate configured to provide illumination from the plurality of independently addressable LED segments inside the vehicle. A processor may be configured to receive information from a o vehicle sensing system, a vehicle communication system, or a detection system, and may generate a signal. A controller may be configured to provide one or more light control signals to modify at least one light characteristic of at least one of the plurality of independently addressable LED segments based on the signal.

A light emitting diode (LED) may include a conductive via in a first portion of an epitaxial layer and a first contact on a second portion of the epitaxial layer. The first portion and the second portion may be separated by an isolation region. The LED may include a transparent conductive layer on the epitaxial layer.

High density interconnect for segmented LEDs

A light-emitting apparatus can reduce flicker and retain power efficiency. A method can include driving, by a light emitting element (LEE) driver circuit, first, second, and third LEEs using a pulse width modulation (PWM) driving scheme to generate light of a first color, the first, second, and third LEEs configured to emit different colors, alternating, by the LEE driver circuit, between driving the first, second, and third LEEs using a hybrid driving scheme and the PWM driving scheme, and after alternating between driving the first, second, and third LEEs in the hybrid and PWM driving schemes, driving, by the LEE driver circuit, the first, second, and third LEEs using the hybrid driving scheme.

Lighting apparatus with reduced abrupt brightness changes

A light source useful for architectural lighting, general lighting, street lighting, or other lighting applications includes a plurality of light emitting diodes. A least some light emitting diodes can be sized between 30 microns and 500 microns. A plurality of micro-optics sized less than 1 millimeter are positioned over at least some of the plurality of light emitting diodes and a controller is connected to selectively power groups of the plurality of light emitting diodes to provide different light beam patterns.

Flexible low Z-height LED arrays with controllable light beams

A light source useful for architectural lighting, general lighting, street lighting, or other lighting applications includes a plurality of light emitting diodes, with at least some light emitting diodes sized between 50 microns and 500 microns. A plurality of micro-optics sized less than 1 millimeter are positioned over at least some of the plurality of light emitting diodes. Each combination of light emitting diode and associated micro-optic is positioned within a Rayleigh distance to each other, sufficient to both present a substantially uniform visual appearance and provide a substantially uniform light beam. In some embodiments the height of the light emitting diodes, their supporting substrate and electrical traces, and associated optics is less than 5 millimeters.

Rayleigh spacing limited and low z-height LED arrays

An LED circuit board, system, and method of using an LED configuration tool are described. The LED circuit board contains a microprocessor that wakes up when power is supplied from the LED configuration tool. The microprocessor determines that the LED configuration tool is present by sending a signal from one pin and detecting whether the same signal is received at another pin. When analog or digital programming information received from the LED configuration tool matches information in a table of the microprocessor, the programming information is stored to change the lighting parameters used by the LEDs. Feedback from the microprocessor to the LED configuration tool provides information regarding the status of programming the microprocessor.

Offline lighting configuration tool

A light source includes a plurality of light emitting diodes, with at least some light emitting diodes sized between 30 microns and 500 microns. A plurality of micro-optics are associated with a light guide plate and sized less than 1 millimeter, with each micro-optic positioned over at least one of the plurality of light emitting diodes. At least some of the combinations of light emitting diode and micro-optics associated with the light guide plate are positioned within a distance to each other sufficient to provide a substantially uniform light beam.

Optical light guide systems for low Z-height LED arrays

A system may include a memory configured to store instructions and a processor. The processor may be configured to execute the instructions to cause the system to determine a PWM frequency of the input PWM signal and generate a first PWM signal to power a first light emitting diode (LED), a second PWM signal to power a second LED, and a third PWM signal to power a third LED. Each of the first PWM signal, the second PWM signal, and the third PWM signal may have the PWM frequency of the input PWM signal and may be in phase with the input PWM signal.

Time slicing method for multi-channel color tuning using a single current source input

A light emitting device comprises a detector circuit and a light emitting diode (LED) die. The LED die includes a semiconductor stack grown on a substrate. The LED includes an emitter segment formed from one segment of the semiconductor stack. The LED die includes a photosensor segment formed from another segment of the semiconductor stack. The LED die includes a segmentation layer formed between the emitter segment and the photosensor segment. The segmentation layer electrically isolates the emitter segment from the photosensor segment. The LED die includes first electrodes configured to provide power to energize the emitter segment. The LED die includes second electrodes configured to send the current to the detector circuit. The detector circuit is configured to convert the current to a signal which provides operational feedback with respect to the emitter segment.

Light emitting diodes with sensor segment for operational feedback

A flexible printed circuit board and method of fabrication are disclosed. The flexible printed circuit board has a flexible body with multiple segments. Each segment has multiple body contacts that are electrically isolated from body contacts of each other segment. The flexible printed circuit further has multiple flexible legs in which each leg extends from a different segment and contains multiple leg contacts disposed proximate to a distal end of the leg from the body. Each leg contact is connected with a different body contact of the leg. The flexible printed circuit board is formed from a multilayer structure that includes: a dielectric layer, a metal layer adjacent to the dielectric layer, and a solder mask layer adjacent to the metal layer, the solder mask layer exposing portions of the metal layer to form the body contacts.
