An insulation product is provided comprising an insulation sheet containing randomly oriented fibers bonded together. The sheet has first and second major surfaces and a pair of side portions. A nonwoven facing layer is bonded to at least one of the major surfaces. The nonwoven facing layer comprises randomly oriented bicomponent fibers, each of the bicomponent fibers including first component and second component portions. The nonwoven facing layer is bonded to the at least one major surface at least in part by a meltbond between the first component portion of the bicomponent fibers and the randomly oriented fibers in the insulation sheet.

A continuous method of making duct liner is provided, comprising the steps of: (i) forming at least one lane of duct liner insulation having a top and bottom surfaces and a pair of side edges, the duct liner insulation having a facing layer on at least a bottom surface thereof, wherein the bottom surface faces downward after the forming step; (ii) flipping the duct liner insulation and facing layer while the duct liner insulation is conveyed, whereby the top surface faces downward and the facing layer faces upward; and (iii) applying a water-resistant coating to the upwardly facing layer, wherein the duct liner insulation is conveyed as part of a continuous manufacturing process from the forming step to the applying step.

A method is provided to produce fine diameter glass fibers with fewer defects through a combination of lower attenuating gas velocities and the use of spinners having more and smaller holes. The method uses a device for internal centrifugation of mineral fibers including a centrifuge equipped with a peripheral band perforated with orifices distributed in a plurality of annular zones arranged on top of each other, assuming that the centrifuge is in centrifugation position. The device includes at least two annular zones whose number of orifices per unit of surface area differs by a value greater than or equal to 5%, 10%, or 20%.

Use of corrugated hose for admix recycling in fibrous glass insulation

A method and apparatus for conditioning loose-fill insulation including an elongated tubular cylinder having a plurality of internal blades positioned in a helical configuration. Large nodules of glass fibrous material pass through the conditioning cylinder and are combed into smaller, more uniform sizes, thus allowing a more uniform additive application further downstream in the manufacturing process. The addition of a tangential airflow to the conditioning cylinder facilitates the combing process by adding a tangential force to move the nodules down the cylinder.

The present invention relates to a method of making a board product with fiber scrap materials, including the steps of adding a binder powder to the fiber scrap materials, processing the scrap fiber into pieces and mixing the fiber scrap materials with the binder powder, distributing the fiber and binder combination across the width of a forming conveyor, and melting the combination to fix the fiber with the binder.
